Just read an update on the Jeff Olson case.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/25/jeff-olson-california-banks_n_3499177.html

QuoteThe San Diego Reader reported Tuesday that a judge had decided to prohibit Olson's attorney from "mentioning the First Amendment, free speech, free expression, public forum, expressive conduct, or political speech during the trial."

This actually makes me physically ill.

edit: Wax museum did cheer me up a bit.

$6000 to clean chalk off a sidewalk 13 times? That's over $460 each time.

I'm in the wrong business.

The school tried to charge me $400 to paint over a tiny pencil mark my daughter made on the wall once, that she erased. The eraser made a smear or something.

I told them to put some Clorox on a sponge.  :lulz:

I've done designs in sidewalk chalk...and the next time it rains, those designs are gone.
...This is ridiculous.
...No sane jury would convict over this.
So, will they seat a sane jury?

...I've been in a jury selection pool several times and never served.

...The last time? it was a DWI case.

There was no breathalyzer, no blood draw ( you can get a search warrant for that !), no dashcam video of her driving erratically, no witnesses, no corroborating evidence AT ALL.
Merely the single officer's word against the woman's word.

...And there were not enough people in the prospective jury panel who were willing to vote to convict on that basis alone.
...I was proud to be one of those.
The judge was PISSED!

And quite frankly I was too.  They wasted everyone's goddamn time with that nonsense.

This is a thread of its' own, but I want to look into more how the jury selection system is slanted to get conviction-happy people.
Hope was the thing with feathers.

"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

I never served on a jury, ever. I probably REEK of everything they DON'T want.
This gets me out of it every time, but I've wondered the same thing about the people they DO pick. Probably a bunch of racist teabaggers.
