Oh yeah, now is the perfect time to extract major concessions from them.

It's just I'm sad that I won't get to see the GOP's strained rationalization for why causing the US to default on its debt does not lead to lasting prosperity.  I've been waiting years for that to happen.

They haven't actually got one.

And my guess is that The Smiler will end up letting them off lightly.  They both have the same bosses, after all.

Obama just raised the stakes

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24375591

QuoteUS President Barack Obama has warned Wall Street should be concerned that a conservative faction of Republicans are willing to allow the country to default on its debt.

He said he would not hold budget talks with Republicans until they allow the US government to reopen and pass a bill to raise the US borrowing limit.

Emphasis mine.

:lulz: I gotta respect that.

The US does not have a monopoly on wingnuts.  Alas:

QuoteThe American Left's hatred for all things conservative has been on full display in Washington in recent days, with the White House and its allies in Congress heaving with anger and indignation over mounting opposition to the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and growing calls to defund it.

Which is, of course, why 72% of Americans blame Republicans for, and oppose, the government shutdown.

I'm thinking that the throw Cruz under the bus scenario is getting more likely.

Let alone that most Americans approve of "Obamacare" when you break it down into its individual provisions, regardless of political alignment.

I think we shot past the information age and straight into the noise age. Perhaps the answer to the Drake Equation is that after a certain point of technological advancement an alien species will maintain their radio communication, but that communication drowns itself out into indistinguishable nonsense.
