Assuming sub-lightspeed travel.
They would get accelerated input when traveling to here, allowing a greater chance to encounter something worthwhile.
Once they found this worthwhile thing and decide not to kill us they start travelling away from us, thereby getting greatly decellerated input, this allows a lower chance of encountering something that again makes them want to genocide us.
So their are always spending more time going away from us per good item broadcasted than they are spending time coming to kill us for every bad broadcast. Since we are not dead yet we must be doing enough things right.
