... Wow.

If there's one thing I hate about 24 hour rolling news, it is that we hear this snippet... but it'll be days at best, most likely weeks or months until we have a clear picture of what happened and why.

The fact she took her kid along (maybe) is particularly WTF.

When I shared it on fapbook just now, it changed the headline to "Shots fired At US Capitol, female suspect in custody"

"Not an act of terrorism nor an accident."  So, in other words, she was white.  As we know, white people cannot commit terrorism.  Despite the fact the police also concede her motives were unknown.  So, they don't know why she did it.  But she did it on purpose.  But it wasn't terrorism!  Although they don't know her motives.

BBC also reports she was unarmed when killed.

Also possibly worth noting - the attempted...whatever this was, derailed talks to stop the government shutdown, as the politicians were ordered to take shelter as a precaution against attack.  Just something to potentially consider and factor in, as more evidence about the case comes to light.

I've definitely taken all of these into consideration, and am awaiting further info.

She may have well been a common criminal with bad GPS. Unlikely, but again, until we know more about her and potential motive, it's pointless to conjecture, other than the timing is real weird.

The discrepancy between her being armed and unarmed is interesting though. Some initial reports that I read said she had a gun, and later ones saying she was using her car as a weapon.

It was a FUBAR kind of day around there, apparently.

Well, it's DC. FUBAR is par, from what I gather.

Well, the reports we had said Senators heard shots fired.  My assumption would be that was the police firing on the car, but that people took it as someone was firing shots at the White House.

There are reports that she was in fact unarmed and that Secret Service and Capitol police gunned her down. Not that trying to ram your car into White House property isn't weird on its own. I want more information, and the 24 hour news cycle is more than willing to supply me with conflicting information. I'll take most of it with a grain of salt until we know for sure what her name was and where she was from. I heard from some post on FB that she drove from Connecticut. That implies intent, but that's also a hell of a drive, which also implies intent, except for baby in the back seat making that even more unlikely. I mean, you COULD drive from CT to DC, but you'd have to leave, like first thing in the morning, speed a good part of the way, and make sure your kid saw you, ermmm... trespassing on the White House lawn before getting take out?

Stupendously shitty source, I know, but not totally farfetched - comment on the youtube video:

QuoteSo, this is police showing "restraint" according to the media mouthpieces? A woman & her child take a wrong turn, she panics when swarmed by men with guns yelling at her, she gives into flight response and bumps police property and a guy with a gun slapping her car...and is later shot dead when finally chased down and cornered?

All because a woman and a baby and a car supposedly threatened the Imperial Seat of Power? Seems like the crazy fuck driving that police car posed a far greater danger.

That's about what my reaction was watching all this. I don't know why she was upset in the first place, but it looks like the officers escalated that shit up to 11 in record time.

The Good Reverend Roger

She was upset because she thought Obama was stalking her.

QuoteThe woman who led authorities on a chase from the White House to the Capitol before she was killed by police may have thought that President Barack Obama was stalking her, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

The sources said that the woman, Miriam Carey, had a history of mental health problems.

Poor lady.
