Your "difference of opinion" regarding what Stella said about Charley seems to be... unless I am misreading you completely... that you are insistent that she meant her comment about his medical problems maliciously, when she herself says that she meant it charitably, and two other people, myself included, also say that they read it as being intended charitably. You are, apparently, of a different opinion than Stella herself is about the intention behind her comment.

What I am having a hard time understanding is what makes you feel you have the authority to have a different opinion about her intention, in contradiction of what she says it was.

Twid, I'll give you a piece of advice that might be handy in the future. Don't publicly put yourself in between two people who have had a falling-out, especially if you're friends with both of them. Trying to make peace between two people who have their own reasons for feeling animosity toward each other is one of the most condescending and invalidating things you can do; it doesn't make you look like a peacemaker, it makes you look like a self-absorbed prick who has to make everything about themselves, and it's a great way to lose friends.
