Everyone is so concerned with the well-being of our children these days and their internet browsing habits. Especially those children reaching that special age when their brains start telling them things like: "Procreate! Procreate! Procreate, damn you! You're gonna die any day now and we have to pass on your genes!" The multitude of porn web sites allows them to figure out exactly what procreation is and how to master it. I'm not talking about child porn sites, here. I think those are disgusting and vile. Anyway, certain authority figures (ministers, politicians, etc) have started teaching the rest of us that porn is bad for kids and will inevitably turn them into sex offenders (just like "Doom" was supposed to make people homicidal).
Ok. Great. But what about the plethora of political chat rooms, message boards, usenet groups etc? I haven't heard a peep from my local expert on God that kids shouldn't be looking at those. Some of the opinions expressed there are filled with hate. I mean, seriously, you can smell the hatred coming out of the computer screen and you get this feeling like: "Christ, I need to take a bath and get clean. I still don't know why liberals, neocons, gays, poor people, arabs, black people, women, the mentally ill and communists are dirty cow-fucking retarded cocksucking bastards who deserve a bullet to the brain, but it's making me feel dirty."
So, let me get this straight: pictures of sex are bad for kids, but messages filled with sheer, dark hatred are ok?

OK, maybe slightly sarcastic, but yeah, you have a point.  Then again, if there was a way to block "hateful speech" (something they are trying over here, currently)  I'm sure as hell the Bible, Koran and various geostrategic insanities would proliferate, while heresies like our good selves would be stomped.  The real trick is teaching a kid how to critically assess things and let them look at whatever they damn well please, knowing full well their built in bullshit detectors will work better than any legislation.

But of course, that would require our leaders (spiritual, legal or otherwise) to actually trust us.  Which is, as we know, impossible.
