The Good Reverend Roger

Every so often, I am forced to leave my little town in the mountains, my little inbred hick reservation that it is my job to guard, and I have to go down into Tucson.

Tucson is a filthy, dusty little city, loaded to the gills with light industry, meth heads, bad traffic,  the desperate poor, and the occasion rich yahoo with more money than brains.  It is a vile pit of overcrowding, roach-infested apartment buildings, abandoned new construction, and hideous traffic accidents that nobody even stops to gawk at, anymore.

But then the sun goes down and the night comes up and the city comes to life.  With the setting of the punishing sun (it was 90F on Thursday, in FEBRUARY), the freaks come out and the party starts...from the bistros and sex shops of 4th Avenue, to the dirty boys on Grant road, from the hookers of Miracle Mile to the pool sharks on 12th Street, the city pulses with life.

Degenerate and mutated life, but life all the same.

And for a little while, I can forget that our country, our civilization, is in decline.  I can forget that we are ruled by shitheads and pimps and hustlers and thieves.  I can forget that we are locked in two ruinous wars, and I can forget that the media is now nothing more than the Ministry of Propaganda.

I hate this city, because I can never stay away.  I love this place, and it will always be my home.  They are the deviants, the warped, and the insane...and God help me, I am their king.

And if you tell anyone I said this, I will call you a liar.  Then I will rip the top off of your skull and shit on your living brain.

Or Kill Me.

It's nice to have your own home town, a place where everyone knows your name, where the nice policeman shakes your hand, and all your dreams are still the same.

Wait! That's not what you described!

Heh, well, it's nice to have a scorpion-infested, heat-stroke-inducing, neon-lit carnival of a hellhole to call home, too.

Out here on the Northwest coast mold grows on the moss in our lungs and the sun is something we remember seeing last year. I don't shave, I scrape algae off my face and the hair comes off with it.

Good that Tuscon is fun. Long may it run.

Ah, yes.  I spent my childhood in Newfoundland.  I know well the various hues of the sunlight as it struggles through no less than 20 different forms of precipitation between the troposphere and the ground.

And then there's the stink of fish.  They call it the smell of the ocean, but really it's the smell of the land...where rotten fish pile up on tidepools full of trapped ocean life that haven't the slightest notion that they are a metaphor for US, and everyone pretends that there AREN'T vast beasties just out behind the rocks, waiting to pick off and devour the slower fishermen.

And that's the last time we saw Skipper Gearge,  and nobody likes to talk about the goo that was found in his dory when it washed up on shore.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

Fuck you guys, in MY hometown we have year-round cherry blossoms blanketing the streets like pink snow and thornless roses and lemon-scented daphne and children romp the streets in perfect safety and it only rains at night and policemen love black people SO much and there is no crime and the grocer waves to passers-by.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

Lemon-scented Daphne! I wondered what ever happened to her. She was quite a gal. Hope you guys out there are treating her right. She was a much better date than Tuna-scented Hulga.

New Brunswick is like a conservative version of that, and with tour boats
and since Taps closed down the quality of beer has really dropped and seemed to have made all the dock workers kind of unstable
Through me the way to the city of woe, Through me the way to everlasting pain, Through me the way among the lost.
Justice moved my maker on high.
Divine power made me, Wisdom supreme, and Primal love.
Before me nothing was but things eternal, and eternal I endure.
Abandon all hope, you who enter here.

Link?

It is still locked in my diseased and damaged brain meat.

I should be churning out one every other day or so.
