Sir Squid Diddimus

that's pretty awesome.

and then it got eaten by a train.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

Did you guys see the photoessay someone did of taking a trip on one of those, on an abandoned track in the middle of nowhere? It was REALLY COOL.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

trillian

please don't provide a link or anything, you know we hate that.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

I actually would have provided a link if I could find it... I was honestly just wondering if maybe iPhone Mantis had seen it, since he is interested in these gadgets.

No, I've seen a lot of train related photo essays but never one of those things. Do you know who did it?

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

No idea, it was just this fantastic essay of these kids taking one on a jaunt on these ruined old tracks that went through swamp and ended in a twisted mess, after which they went back. SOOOO COOOOL.

OHHHHHH but while I was searching for it, I found THIS:

I see many happy weekends in my future.

Heh, I've found some pretty cool stuff exploring railroad tracks before including a hidden horse farm with no roads or trails leading into it (bizarre), a pot field and a few moonshine distilleries.

Sir Squid Diddimus

Damn.
I live in the south and I never find cool shit like that.

Keep looking, you're bound to find something cool eventually. Then again, you do live in Florida...

I wouldn't even call that the south really. EDIT: The south seems to stop as soon as you reach Florida.

Go exploring in a dense forest for a day if you can find one, you'll probably find at least one cool thing.

Yesterday I did some half-assed parkouring through a bunch of cut down trees (for those of you who are wondering, this is a very bad idea, fallen trees are not very stable) and ended up almost slamming into a hobo shack just past the treeline. Nobody was in it though.

trillian

I love finding stuff like that.

this is very near where I live:

i've never been there but several friends have.  They said it looked  like someone had cleared the roadway areas fairly recently.  Very interesting/mysterious area.

Shibboleet The Annihilator

I guarantee if you look for long enough you will find cool shit no matter where you are. Consider getting a part time job at a shitty local newspaper to find cool things or just drop by and ask them where you can find cool shit. Historical societies are another good place to ask.

Sir Squid Diddimus

Eh... we have some deep south. There's a lot of swamp here. ~cue banjo~
I'm just not going anywhere near it.

The rednecky parts of this place (like Bithlo and Christmas) scare the hell out of me.
Maybe St. Augustine has something interesting hidden somewhere.

Shibboleet The Annihilator

Hate to say it, but the rednecky parts might have some very cool stuff. Also, if you explore urban places most people never go you'll find cool stuff (i.e. sewers, closed down subway tunnels and other creepy places).
