It has come to my attention that there is a small overpopulation problem here on your our  :transmet: planet.  I have thought for millenia days on this subject and have come to what I see as the most logical solution.  We should devour every hundreth person....right now.  Think of it as a solution to a problem and the world's largest barbeque at the same time.  You can sit and eat with your neighbors...with the exception of the neighbor that you ARE eating.  I thank you for listening.  TRANSMISSION END
I am a compulsive liar.   That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's the truth.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.  That's a lie.

There's not an overpopulation problem, there's a lack of resource distribution problem.

I tend to think there's a bit of both.

As a species, we don't actually benefit from being so numerous, and it creates logistical and environmental problems (from a selfish standpoint - I'm talking about MY environment, not jellyfish and pandas) that are difficult to resolve.

I don't have any good suggestions for resolving it, though. I suppose ideally, a good education and ample opportunity would be available for everyone, as those things seem to naturally stem overpopulation, but hahahahaha.

The general population's susceptibility to diseases UP because shitty genes are passed in higher numbers.  Crowded places, sanitation, sewage... diseases spread faster

I don't think it has to do with poor genes, but rather the latter reasons you mentioned.

Actually, I think that living in unsanitary  conditions all your life would increase your tolerance of certain diseases, but that doesn't really have much to do with genetics, but immune response.

Triple Zero

"as a species", we don't have much of a problem at all.

"as a species", we are hugely successfull.

whatever disasters will come upon us through overpopulation, we'll be back up and running within a few hundreds of years. which is not so much as a blip on the timescale that our species lives on. who knows we might even come out having learned something (fat chance)

unless we do something really stupid and become a lot more effective at destroying our living environment.

the real question is, which humans taste best?

There are lots of geographers and such that say that humanity will top out at somewhere between 7.5 billion and 11 billion and then start our decline as a species. Just like any other animal out there, our expiration date is coming up. I think that rather than some grand apocalypse, humanity will slip quietly away, and in a few thousand years the Earth will hardly bear enough evidence of our existence for even the longest lived rocks to remember us. not that rocks have memories. but if they did...

this was my point, but I guess you missed it.

that isnt really caused by overpopulation, now is it?

the chances of all out thermonuclear heck were just as large (if not larger) a couple of decades ago when the world population was less than half its current size.

my point was, overpopulation (which is the topic of this thread) is not going to do us in as a species, but doing something really stupid (which isnt) might.
