the answer to your question basically hinges on two factors. first is the enormously strong exponential component to these things. regardless of whether the originator was skilled or not, if a meme "hits", it's coverage and reach just explodes and the amount of people it reaches bears no relation anymore with the fact whether the originator was skilled or not.
second factor is simply that those people who are really skilled at it generally don't bother making viral emails just for the hell of it, without attempting some sort of memetic piggybacking to carry a message they want to spread. the fact that the thing you quoted doesn't have anything piggybacking on it means that either it was never there (and some kid copied it from a magazine possibly and started forwarding it) or that it has fallen off (which means it has evolved beyond its original construction).

Anyway I've been here for a year now, and strangely enough, I've never felt more "at home" in any corner of the internet than this one.  I also have you spags to thank for helping me become twice as awesome as I was a year ago, although I'm still nowhere near half as awesome as I thought I was at that time.
