I was lucky with my daughter as a toddler, she wasn't much for tantrums but in all my friends kids it seems to get pretty common around age two, more so in boys than girls.

Physical discipline works on some kids and not on others, I'm sure you know way better than anyone else what reaction it gets from your kid.

Whether that's bad really depends on the quality of the home. The place where my 84 year old grandmother is, is pretty fecking swote and I wish I'd be at such a place when I'm 84.
