I've found that the amount of enjoyment I feel is directly proportional to the amount of awfully awfuls of which I'm aware.  I'm sick right now but generally I'm feeling pretty decent and reasonable.  That's because I know in the back back back of my mind there is the mere potential for the most awful things to happen.  They don't HAVE to happen but their shear possibility is enough.  In contrast to that, I'm feeling pretty damn alright.

Well, lets be honest: I'm the one who mostly talks about what a shit condition the world is in.  Ever wonder why?  Could it be that I have a deep and abiding interest in how the world works and what is going on, and it just so happens much of what goes down out there is bad, or nasty, or horrible or whatever?  And yeah, I did moan about my life for a while, but to be fair, I got shafted bad.

What is this Pragmaticism of which you speak?  I assume you mean Pragmatism, but I want to make sure.  And even then, that doesn't make much sense.  I'm also pretty sure "the world" doesn't work in the same way as this rather dull, if slightly seedy country town.  No, I'm pretty sure the rest of the world is, by and large, much more difficult, dangerous, heartbreaking, horrormirthy, hilarious, exhilarating and murderous than what exists here.  Believe me, the world would probably be a morally better, if duller place, if it reflected my current surroundings.  No urban guerrilla warfare, black flag ops, secret prisons, or dodgy diamonds for YUO.

You seem to be confusing wonderful with "good".  A few philosophy lessons will no doubt beat that out of you in due time.  Wonderful is derived from "wonder", which can mean astonishment, admiration or doubt.  I feel all three of those on a daily basis.

But if your personal life is good, you'll find a problem in your country, or the world, or something.  Searching for another problem you can't fix just to remind everybody, you were right and Logic is all there is.

Skipping the past few pages to be amazed at how quickly this prodigal genius has, in barely over two months (a chunk of which, he/she admits, was spent away from this site), distilled the entirety of everything everyone here has said in the years the forum has been in existence. That's a hell of a lot of reading to pull off in less than two months. Furthermore, he's managed to tell us what our opinions and viewpoints about the world are, which is a relief, because I was getting awfully confused about what my own ideas were.

The world is a terrible place.

So long as one terrible thing happens, it has to be recognized as such.  Otherwise you compromise on how much terrible it takes.  Any terrible is too terrible.  One kid starving while excess foodstuffs are destroyed is too many - if that occurs and you don't call the world terrible you're essentially saying that this kind of thing is okay.

I doubt you'll read through five pages to get this far, and that's precisely the problem with the OP and perfectly describes your mistaking the world for being a decent place.  You aren't looking past the surface.
