Well, some things are indeed self-contained, and it's always good to hear that people at least looked at it.

But a post with one long rant and 20 "wow" posts isn't really a fluff thread, IMO.

Sure.

But I am also concerned about the new stance on fluff threads in general.  While I personally don't have much use for them, that IS the purpose of Apple Talk, and I don't see that riding people for it is going to improve things.

You're absolutely right, AT is not the place to chide people for being fluffy.

Here, I turned the last 15 pages into a wordle splat, to show you the kind of language being used in this thread:

This is really cool. It kinda put things into perspective in a weird way.

Every time we troll a board, or nearly every time, we come away with their best users, because they don't feel like dealing with an overbearing environment.

Their best users.  Not the mediocre ones, not the bitchy board nannies, etc.

There is no guarantee that won't happen to us, if we decide it's time to lean on everyone with some arbitrary and ill-defined standard of what is acceptable in AT.

Please just don't tell me we have to hug and make up now. I hate that shit.

HUGGING

Not that we were ever fighting.  But I like hugs, especially with hawt laydeez like Nigel.   :fap:

I don't recall seeing that anyone anywhere said anything about enforcing any sort of standards for post content. Or does bitching about the fact that people are just posting verbal diarrhea with no regard to making it funny or interesting count as an attempt at "enforcement" just because it's coming from me?

if so, I do this ----> at anyone who actually thinks that.

also, please point me to the last poster that stuck around long-term as the result of us boarding another forum. I think it's been quite some time since anyone like that looked around here and decided to stay.

NotPublished would be the most recent one, I think.

and therein lies the real root of the problem, for me. I'm not bitching about this because "OMG THIS IS MY FORUM AND YOU HAVE TO LIVE UP TO MY STANDARDS OR ELSE!", I'm bitching about it because I honestly think that this site is turning into something that will stop attracting the sort of userbase that it has historically attracted. Honestly, if I had never heard of this site and saw it today for the first time, my reaction would be more "huh, there might be a handful of things here worth checking out, if I can stand to pick through the drivel" as opposed to "hot shit! I gotta get with these cats and work on some projects with them!", and that really fucking bothers me because I want this place to be compelling to the kind of people that have that creative energy to burn. Frankly, I'm getting pretty pissed that I keep feeling like I need to defend that viewpoint from backhanded accusations of "elitism" or whatever stupid shit some of you are saying that pretty fucking well oughtta know better. It's not like I'm MAKING you post one way or another, and it's not like there aren't a fucking million other outlets on the internet for you to babble on about stupid shit that you can't be bothered to even try to create something interesting or pointed out of, so basically everyone who has nothing more to say than "DOOD STOP BEING SUCH A NAZI ABOUT CONTENT!" can choke on six miles of infected rectal polyps.

ECH, my earlier post concerning you and your motives still stands.

I am now simply expressing a concern or three.

Not Published, IIRC.

And we haven't gone on a raid in a while.  Well, except for the Ellis tards, and only one of them made the grade (Infidel/ZazzyE, the only one still here).

We should do one, and soon.

I'd have a hard time beleiving (most) people actually think that. Dok said it like 40,000 pages ago, people are just overeacting.
Instead of throwing leaves on the fire, maybe just switch gears and get a converstion going on a way to get people more motivated to participate in more progressive activities.
