Traffic was getting pretty heavy a lot leading up to tet. Vietnam has 84 million people and 10 million scooters. There seem to be pretty much no road rules, but no one really goes above about 40kmph, except on highways. Saw a few people come off their bikes, everyone stops, picks them up and helps out.

The streets everywhere were amazingly decorated for the new year.

Silk worms eating leaves above. Silk worm cuccoons below. Yes they are bright yellow.

Here's me testing out a secret entrance to the VC tunnels:

Unfortunately no pic of the hidden entrance. It was pretty flawless.

Somewhere in the Mekong River Delta: A traffic jam

Glad to be out of the traffic jam:

Ha Long Bay. This place is amazing. World Heritage Site. 1500km2 with 2000 tiny limestone islands. It was humid but misty and awesome.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

Vietnam is so beautiful.

I think Dok should spare it when he blows up the earf.

Why am I having Jane Fonda flashbacks ITT?

I would spend every minute wondering if any of my friends or family were still there. I would wonder where they died. I would wonder where the pieces they came back without were. Some memories just don't die Rog. You of all people know I am not a right wingnut. But in this I would never set foot in that country. Ever. Those 'cool' tunnels harbored soldiers that killed Americans. They hid supplies and weapons in them. They were booby trapped.
Do you know how they checked those tunnels out in the 'police action'? The smallest guy was held by his feet and lowered in head first with a .45 pistol. Fun times. Maybe I better just leave this thread.

I am glad you enjoyed your trip.

All of this is true, Hawk, but whose fault is it?  Not the Vietnamese.

It was this guy:

It was HIS fault all those people died.  Oh, and all the people who believed his bullshit.  If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at him, and at a complacent America that believed his lies, just as they believed the lies about WMDs in 2003.

Thanks Hawk,

I am sorry to bring up painful memories, no threadjack.
Soldiers killing soldiers though. You can't hold it against them, we invaded their country. No American civilians were killed, right?
The rudimentary booby traps they built were horrible, but effective, and they didn't have much choice. I, for one, was taking notes in case any poor bastard is ever duped into invading my home one day, and into believing I am his enemy.

I know it is understandably a topic of much grief to many Americans, that war is a horrible little stain on our history. Honestly, I wanted to see what reactions this thread would get from everyone here, because real, honest, bare human emotions are beautiful, Hawk. I certainly don't deserve an apology from you. I should instead thank you for expressing yourself in my thread, or maybe I should be the one apologising for bringing it up. I can't even imagine what it's like to lose friends or relatives in a war, so it's pretty unfair and horrible for me to force the topic on those that have.

Thanks, guys. :)

I haven't had much time for lurking PD lately, so I feel it's a bit rude of me to keep bumping this thread.
I'm glad if people enjoy it though, and I'll probably post some more pics sometime, too.
