Also, I guess Dok is of Welsh decent then, lol.

I may have to revise my letter, due to some of the content of his.

Oh dear. I hear a cry of  "RELEASE THE HOUNDS!" in your future.

Merely recognizing that pen is the Welsh word for head. Wouldn't have made the connection until he said it meant redhead.

Alright, for my own health, and so no one else gets splattered with my entrails, I will never again mention Dok's possible Welsh heritage.

NT, it's not Welsh, but derived from the same language modern Welsh was derived from. As I recall, Doks ancestry places him in Cornwall, where there is still a large amount of traditional (ie; Pre-Roman) bits of language floating around. Of course there was in pre-Roman times a lot of intermingling of culture and language across the whole British isles, and Welsh is derived from that language to large degree.

English is partly based on German, with lots of words stolen from other languages, but not based so much on that proto-language.

Incidentally, my own surname is derived from post-Roman Cornwall, taken from the Latin Pagnus, meaning "exempt from military service".

I am thinking it was possible that at some distant point in the past, my ancestors welcomed the Romans over, gave them places to land their boats and build forts and basically fuck over the rest of the tribes in the area and where thence given a get-out-the-front-line-of-the-army-free card (which is where a lot of conquered peoples and slaves ended up, as cannon fodder)

:lulz:  I take it back, mine is okay.
what's worse it it's 9 letters and rare, so people have a fuck of a time spelling it. my first name is apparently hard for people to spell, too, so i've become the letters of my two names.

Mine is 10 letters long :p
Means "Grandson of a follower of St. Ciaran [of Clonmacnois]"
Mine is 12, About six too many letters really. No idea what it means.

I dunno man, your name rocks.

I can't remember how I discovered it, (did I read a paper of yours for your schoolin' or something?) I do know that I can't forget it, no matter how hard I try.

my last name is boring and simple, yet the geneologists aren't entirely sure what it means, and it's prone to misspelling not because of tricky unexpected letters but because people don't think and it sounds like some much more common last name.

only good thing about it is that it's five letters just like my first and middle name.

apart from that, if me or my brother don't get any kids, this strain of the family name will die out, cause my other relatives from my dad's side are from his sister.

ah well, it's just a name eh

No! it's your Y chromosome!  you must produce a male heir.
it is imperative.

also, for some reason, when i read you post, i read and reread genealogist as gynecologist, which confused me.  i have no idea what that means...

The redhead genes in the Celtic pool come from the Scythians, and those were the fuckers who killed Conan's parents and turned him into a badass (do I need to mention my thread on TCC about the fact that the Scythian Rhea-Kronia/Tabiti is another name for Eris?).
