There's also the fact that just because someone else saw a thing doesn't mean you yourself can't either. Personal adventure could be used to combat mediocrity in life. You don't even have to actually GO anywhere, just find a new experience.

Is there really any society that would take a suggestion of how to act to have more fun? People by themselves = rational. People in big groups = Monkeys in varied and fractured factions.
