Sorry, this is from first page but I almost died laughing at this.

I thought this is all there is,

Howdy gang.  My absence lately has been due, in part, to me cramming together this training Conference for the kids in my peer support program.  This is my first year organizing the event and I didn't think there would be that much to it.  But of course, I forgot to factor in that I would be working with other monkeys who would change their minds, forget, and totally screw things up.  But, in the end, I think it all came out alright.  I also have to say I was quite impressed that I had over 100 teenagers in one room and the place was virtually spotless when they left.  But holy crap did they mow through that pizza fast.  46 pizzas evaporated in about 10 minutes.  Now, I have two days left to prepare the final pitch to the funder to keep this program going.  Wish me luck.  Or not.  But if you don't, I will PM you horrible, horrible puns.  I've been saving up!

Good luck with the funding presentation RWHN!

With a pizza ration of less than .5 per student, I'm glad you didn't have a riot!

Good luck though.  Your program sounds like a good, sincere one, and I hope they keep it running.

Actually, I had figured it out that we were going to have 170 people and then I estimated that each person (the vast majority being in the ever hungry 13-18 yo cohort) would enjoy 2.5 slices of pie.  That's how I came up with the 46, AND, I got it just right because we had just 3 pies leftover, mushroom.

And lo, my director proceeded to leave said leftovers at the office for the kids in treatment, and lo the empty boxes were left overnight on the floor, and thus we arrived this morning to see that a colony of ants set up shop in our breakroom.  Hooray for forward thinking!!!

that's cool - the drug education I got came exclusively through the D.A.R.E. program which was totally ineffective.
It was one of those cases where they only told you horrible exaggerated stuff about how bad drugs are. I knew a number of kids that tried pot, discovered it wasn't the satan-weed that we had been told would immediately decimate our short term memory and make us into unlovable cultural dropouts -- and then went onto other drugs.

so I'm glad they're getting a bit more well-rounded info these days.
Lol...I remember those vividly. That and my father telling me if I tried anything he'd cause me bodily harm...ah, the good ol' days...

I think what you're doing here is pretty great, RWHN. Drugs were pretty much the only thing my schools DIDN'T focus on and from what I saw around me, they needed it. Seems like this is doing a lot of good. :)
I'm the new "God's Will"...Soon it'll be, "Oh, I can't be held accountable for THAT, Sister Gothique made me do it!"

The word I'm getting is that I managed to pretty much convert the entire panel reviewing the program.  My Executive Director just had a chat with me and it looks like the funder is not going to cut us completely, but, they may cut how much money they give us.  Which I can deal with and work with.  Apparently the crusty Social Worker formerly of the Bronx went from being our biggest critic to our biggest champion.

It was a pretty intense 2 hours.  My colleague gave the opening 15 minute monologue about the program.  Which was very hard for me, but I sucked in my pride and rolled with it.  Then came an hour and 45 minutes of questions, which mostly came to me as I manage the day-to-day operations and data evaluation of the program.  I think I was pretty much in the pocket last night and I was able to pretty much ward off every shot they fired at me and I think that was probably the difference.  That I was able to rattle off the answers without hesitation, which is very easy to do when you eat, sleep, and breathe this stuff for weeks at a time.

So anyway, it looks like the result, while not 100% in our favor, is certainly better than we expected at the beginning of this process.  In other words, hooray, I think I still have a job for another couple of years!!!!

Nice going, RWHN! Good to hear that weeks of working your ass off (and taking breaks from PD.com) paid off.
