Why does Nicholas Cage keep getting cast in action roles?

He was in National Treasure(which was good), but then he was in Ghost Rider, Wicker Man, ect. No matter how bad they are he keeps getting put in them, WHY?
Im sure there are plenty of promising young actors who fit the "generic hero" role perfectly, so why Nicholas?

This leads me to a much more puzzling question,


Do people actually go see movies BECAUSE of Nicholas Cage?

Are there actual sane human beings(not reptiles) that say "Dude lets go see that new Nicholas Cage movie." or, "Hell yeah this movies got Nicholas Cage in it."
