Shit

...the Jim Joneses.

We got warriors blowin' shit up every day in Iraq, while all we do is sit on our asses and pretend to care.  Step it up.  We got men takin' bullets for G Dub teh prez, of all people.  Even Blair at least sacrificed his career.  And all we do is build our own little bubble world, just like the politicians have built, but it is truly one universe, and all bubbles must pop, because the universe is no bubble.  Step it up.  I'm not asking us to kill ourselves for our country.  All I'm sayin' is, that if Al Quida and America alike have the courage to face death, then we should at least have the courage to jake the hell into them both.

Just sayin' but I'm doin' it too.

Don't be so vain that you forget your reflection in the mirror of the universe.

Walk ur tawk, tomahawk.
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

I know.

But I still want to know what CowAss meant by "fringe idealists".

TGRR,
Isn't an idealist.
idealist definition-
n.
1. One whose conduct is influenced by ideals that often conflict with practical considerations.

2. One who is unrealistic and impractical; a visionary.

3. An artist or writer whose work is imbued with idealism.

4. An adherent of any system of philosophical idealism.(yourdictionary.com)

The multiple meanings of this word fit the people of this board quite well.

MEaning 1- Well...duh. Even moreso when you consider what modern western society considers "practical"

Meaning 2- Now, not everyone on this board fits here but a great deal of people do along with many others who are considered fringe. Many of these people use these wacky belief systems (yes, they are wacky, some troof, but definetly wacky) as way to make themselves feel unique and important when really they just can't cope with the reality around them. I say again, not everyone fits this def, but many do.

Meaning 3- Yes, many of us fit this description and some are quite talented.

Meaning 4- Everyone here fits this one in some form or another.

And according to most of America, PD and Co. is considered fringe, hence "fringe idealist."

Okay, so we've established what fringe idealism is.  It's the glimmer of hope in Dr. Cowass's lab rats.  Thank you for enlightening us.  What I'm sayin' is that the fringe is not the minority.  All people are somewhat "Bobbed" but only a fraction of people are messianically moronic enough to sabatoge both themselves and the world.  Unfortunatley, they're kinda mainstream just because they get all the focus, and the mainstream has become a sewer.  Fortunately, it provides the perfect opportunity to give the morons a little nudge into their own shitstream for a good chuckle.  Most people are too lazy, too selfish, or too cowardice to take advantage of how stupid some people are, and how much fun they could have pullin fat jakes on all the morons instead of just seething about it.  Im guilty of it myself, thinking so much for myself that I don't consider how nice it would be to buy some idiot a new bumper sticker from unamerican.com or send certain somebody's letters from God or some such.  I've hardly pulled any jakes over the years, and my rant was as much at myself as it was at people in general.
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

First, Definitions 3 and 4 are self-reflective (i.e. they use the word in the definition).  So, we need only concern ourselves with 1 and 2.

Secondly, as the Barstool experiment shows, pragmatism seems to be a very important part of what this board is about.

Thirdly, the BIP, Machine,Ñ¢, and CON¬Æ memes are mainly based in "realistic" terms and concepts.

Fourthly, non-sequitor humor and non-linear thinking do not automatically mean that said humor or thinking are necessarily "idealistic".

Fifthly, you should know better than to make broad statements about a board that finds such things anathema.

P3nT4gR4m

I'd like to go on the record as stating I am not an idealist.

An idealist is one who devotes his efforts to either helping bring about his ideal situation (idealist activist) or jacks off into a sock, in his basement, while fantasising about his ideal situation or bemoaning the injustice inherent in the alternative (sock fucker)

I'm neither of these. I don't have an ideal. I think things are fucked, yes, that's one thing me and brother tubehump have in common but I don't see it as a problem the way some do. And I definitely do not have a solution - you ever hear me say democracy is for idiots then challenge me to come up with something better? I won't. Simple reason - I don't believe in better.

Good and bad = so much bullshit, most of it subjective. In an ideal world I'd laugh at idiots sawing off the branch they're sitting on, whilst hooting and hurling faeces at other idiots.  The idealist wants some kind of lameass utopia, where everyone lives in peace and harmony. Call me old fashioned but I just want more of the same pls. There's no entertainment factor for me in watching a bunch of happy people all smiling beatifically at each other. Much better when they're trying to rip each others throats out.

Some people are pragmatic in what they say, less are pragmatic in what they do. Pragmatism is respected and often preached on these boards, but do you honestly think every member- or even most- are practical in the way they approach the issues discussed here in RL? Alot of these people are still kids or young adults, how would they know what's practical or not, especially when confronting the CoN, Machine, etc. Discordianism is still new, still fringe, and relatively still underground. Most of us haven't gained the wisdom that comes with living longer and expiriecing more of life. I admit, I'm impressed with much of the work this community has created, but there's still loads upon loads of shit that has been made the process. Crap that isn't practical, boring, and sometimes not even funny (which is often most important.) Many people come here simply because their fans of PD and RAW, who are both hilariously impractical most (but not all) of the time-And I fucking love them for it.

Although this board may respect and strive for pragmatic ideas/actions, I can't consider it pragmatic, not yet.
