We actually tried that, not so long ago.

While not the most diplomatically phrased, there is a point to this thread.

Before I grew a pair and stopped taking personal attacks quite so seriously, I really didn't know what to do with PD. It seemed like a place concerned with the same sorts of issues and ideas I was concerned with, but I just couldn't get any acknowledgment--unless I said something careless, at which point someone invariably showed up to pounce on my poor judgment.

Maybe it's because there have been so many crackpot preacher-types wandering through here, but there's some serious emotional scar tissue on our body politic. Plus, while many boards have their hazings, here they tend to be more extreme. We might tell ourselves we're just joking around, but how is a stranger to these boards to know?

Add to that the fact that we're not so well-adjusted ourselves. Those who are super-conciliatory and those who can take a ton of abuse are the ones who end up staying.

We all know the warning signs of an obnoxious n00b...pinealism, accusing others of not being "really real" Discordians, etc. Tolerance here is only a hair's-breadth away from conflict. We can see it with the most senior members of the board as well--intense arguing that still breaks out periodically. It's not that argumentation is bad, but...Agree or disagree, we should at least listen to each other.

Trolling ourselves is not going to raise the level of discourse here unless everyone involved knows how to handle it.

This only encourages n00bs to behave self-righteously, leading to spectacular conflicts with violent endings. Most noobs don't catch any shit at all from me.  Pix, Richter, Suu, Cram, yourself...none of you caught a ration of shit from me when you started, because you posted intelligently and didn't run from one thread to another screeching about how we're all doing it wrong.

As for the noobs like AKK, Cowass, etc, I am occasionally berated by others for jumping down the throats of these types, and I stop, and ignore them, whereupon they spag up every thread on the board.  Within days, the very people who demanded that I stop ask me to start again.

  You are a forthright, outspoken person who likes to get to the point (all of which are fine qualities). When AKK types prance through the forum, you call people out when they allow their higher functions to be submerged in LOLFNORDPINEALGLANDROFL or when their fevered egos take a bull's eye hit and they're reeling from indignation.(Wahh...a man on the internet criticized my cherished belief system!)

Of course, you're probably expecting them to engage you in a debate or at least, show some balls & some rigour. But, what typically happens, is that they consider your e-scalp to be a holy grail or a golden fleece. That's when they dig in because they think that if they could only 'take down Dok H' then all will be right in the world and their behaviours, beliefs etc become valid.

Because the vast majority of people on PD are in unified in the belief that 'outlandishness' is a total waste of time, the AKKspags and their ilk mistake this for 'PD being under the control of Dok'. Which of course, leads to the almost inevitable 'liberation complex'. This is when the resistance to you goes from being a personal issue (I must avenge!) to being 'if I take down Dok, then all the rest of the posters will be free of his influence.' I guess they think they're in downtown Bagdad, pulling down a statue or something.

What I think happens is simply that you are secure in who you are, what you believe and are perfectly comfortable with expressing same. Many people are not like that and when they encounter it they seem to flip the hell out resulting in 50+ page, retitled 'unlimited X' threads.

But it isn't you. It's on them and how they choose to respond.
