It's a bit confrontational for my tastes. When getting people to realize they've stagnated, I usually go for a sort of wistful remember-the-good-old-days kind of feel.

And yes we have wistful reminiscence too., some times it really is better to confront someone though.

It's the confrontational parts of people that are dying off in their ordered little cubes, and their scheduled lives. Telling them to wake up isn't only about "Look around you!" It's also a bit about "Where the fuck has your passion gone?! Why don't you HATE the bastards who are doing this to you?!"

unless you're gonna do it like Roger does, and hate everybody. oh i considered that option, but it's not really a viable choice for me.

but once you start discriminating, you'll end up with people who are just-doing-their-jobs, just-following-the-rules and are completely imprisoned in being unable to step back, take a fresh look at the situation, and at least realize that some of the things they've been doing are silly beyond belief.

cause there are no bastards who are doing this to you. it's all a headless blunder operating under the illusion of a masterplan.

and some of them are your friends.

and then they call you up and say "don't take this personally, i'm just doing-my-job/following-the-rules", and kind of baffled at the moment you agree.
and then later, when you explain them, fuck that it doesn't make sense of course i take it personally because you did personally have a choice they are all confused and dissapointed and more confused about how apparently their choices do have consequences even if they just-follow-the-rules, but it doesn't register, i should fucking bash their heads in with a crowbar, if only that would help one bit.

Turns out that 99% of the time the bastard thats doing this to you, is YOU.

When you come to the realisation that you hate what you do, what you laughably like to think you "are", then you'll want to change things. (those who don't will often never get it anyway)

Mostly everything else comes down to thinking for yourself and getting a clue.

Thats all actually quite simple in the end, it's starting thats difficult. This "Confrontational" style may not work on everyone, but those it does work on are very effectively and efficiently started off on the first steps.

I think of it as "fire and forget". I usually don't want to stick around and hold peoples hands.
