just to throw this out there: i don't know a great deal about copyright law et al. but back when i was in 'the mangrooves' and writing songs, i did  learn that song titles are not copyrightable, only the song itself. apparently, there's nothing stopping me writing a song called 'time after time'. of course, it would just cause confusion with the other song of that name*, but it's not, in itself a violation (or so i've heard). if i started ripping some of the lyrics and melody, then that's when the problem starts.

I was thinking this weekend that we are usually a self-effacing lot, I don't see why we couldn't just say up front, "Yeah, we stole the phrase from PKD, but it doesn't mean to us what it meant to him.  So shut up, and keep reading."
