Seriously.

As some of you know, I'm a gamer.  So I was over on the forums of planetelderscrolls when I got threatened with bannination by a scary powerful admin personage.  This threat was about my .sig.  You see, there I have a much more clever sig than here.

To explain, I'm a punk, and probably will be for life.  In the game everybody wants to be a vampire for some fucktarded reason.  This reminded me of FANG (punk band from the '80's I used to see at the Mab in SF), and that reminded me of one of their great songs "Destroy the handicapped".

I couldn't find the ultra-cool Fang logo (it was a graphic with the band name drawn to look like, well, fangs..  Pantera has recently ripped off this pattern but not with the same effect).  Lacking the graphic, but with the lyrics stuck in my head I made my sig "Destroy the handicapped".  And sonovabitch if those kooky admins didn't decide that my sig was "offensive" and promoted genocide (I didn't know that there was a race of handicapped people on this planet, but whatever...)

I couldn't reach through the intranet tubes to throttle the smarmy little admin bitch (as much as I would have loved to do so), but eventually reason got the better of me.  Arguing with a petty tyrant is the second most retarded thing you can do on the internet, but I did get a little worked up over it.  It's been a while since anybody has triggered my kill reflexes and the adrenaline rush was quite nice.  It's a different kind of buzz than say, bungee-jumping over a crocodile pit.  Similar, but different.

Anyway, that moment reminded me of the Horrible Truth from which the world around us cowers in fear.  I hadn't thought about the Truth in the context of something as inane as a gaming forum.  I mean, really.  Everybody is there to discuss the "roleplaying" endeavors of racially motivated home invasions, mass murder and grand larceny, so I thought they'd be a little more tolerant of humorously violent viewpoints.

Apparently not.

Which is why this place is much more friendly than a make believe discussion group.  Sure, if you say something stupid here you'll get assreamed nine ways from next Thursday.  Fuck, you'd deserve it, too.  In that regard, however, this forum is absolutely tolerant.  None of that fake "we don't tolerate intolerance" bullshit.  Fuck, I hate that.

I'm just rambling so I'll shut up now.  If I had a point I forgot it.

(btw, I'm currently trying to stir up a religious controversy over there.....)

Oblivion isn't all that.  It looks prettier but they lobotomized everything for the console loving methylphenidate junkies.  I'm getting into modding just to put the brains back into it.

I'd be done by now if I was a geek.  Dammit.

But yeah, in general, vid games are getting dumbed down more and more.

Yeah, I've seen this sort of thing before. 

As for here, I'm only temporarily in charge (when I'm not driving across the fucking country and back in a couple of days, anyway), but I really hate people who use an arbitrary position on a forum to make people respect their imaginary authority.  Its just another version of monkey social interaction, instead this time its with internet users.  Suck up to the admins and in most places you can get away with breaking almost every rule, if you don't mind being near universally loathed and acting as the mods "cat's paw".  Not to mention they'll have thier own private little club where the hoi paloi of the forum are not welcome.

Which is mostly why I really don't hold with that shit.  Not only does it breed resentment among friends and would be friends, there is really no need for it.  I like my opinions and words to mean something based on their own merits, not because I'm friends with a certain crowd or have a certain position.  I'm arrogant enough as it is, I don't need false flatterers and hangers-on to turn me into a total asshole.  Which is precisely what would happen if this place was run like some other forums.

The Gamespy network needs a fucking wakeup call.  There was a day way back when that if you installed Gamespy for internet games and didn't set up your profile your in-game name would be "Beefhole".  Then they went corporate and it became "Blaster" and finally the generic "Player".  Fucking smacktards.
