The Road to Hell...and Back

Good intentions.  Let's discuss those, shall we?

I have a theory.  That when someone is "well intentioned" and that's about all you can say, they are actually selfishly trying to LOOK good while doing something that's essentially bad.  Gross generalization, but there it is.  I'm getting down to the nitty-gritty, here.

You see, when you do something that causes someone else some trouble, you are not really doing it "for" them.  You are rather hurting them in the guise of wanting to help, wanting to do something good.  But if you are harming them, you are not accomplishing that, are you?  Instead, you are fucking them up no end and unapologetically, because you "meant well."

Which, actually, you didn't.  You don't "mean well" unless, truly, the outcome IS well.  See, people don't NEED you fucking their shit up because you want to "do something."  If you truly REALLY wanted to do something for them, that has a positive vibe as well as outcome, then you would.  You wouldn't do something that caused them trouble, grief or undue strife.  Instead, you would seek to make sure that everything you did is on the up and up and comes out as well as can be.

Now, if the forces of fate work AGAINST you, and despite all you have done things turned out badly, then motherfucking FIX it.  Fix the fucker.  Right away.  Because if you don't, then you cannot claim to have the "best of intentions."

All you did is pave the road to hell, and back again.

even though you cited that this was a gross overgeneralization it does still open several cans of philosophical worms...

"Who is to say what is good or right, bad or evil?"

"Can anyone be trusted to make those descisions, even yourself? (keeping in mind that absolute power corrupts absolutely)"

"Can people agree or make descisions without any bias or seflish intent?"

I'm inclined to invoke the statement "progress is progress" on this one.  If it was truly beyond the spectrum of the paradigm, and thus "wrong" then it would not come to pass.  Everything else that is allowed IS allowed, even if it's fucked up and wrong in my, your, or everyone's opinion.

Take for example, the ridiculous ammount of flack this statement is about to generate from all my happy dancing trolls.

Me. Think I'm going to let someone else make up my mind for me about my morals?

Quote"Can anyone be trusted to make those descisions, even yourself? (keeping in mind that absolute power corrupts absolutely)"

Of course. Me. Can't trust yourself to make your own decisions, then WAYSA?

Quote"Can people agree or make descisions without any bias or seflish intent?"

Of course not. People ALWAYS act out of self-interest and self-bias.

You bring it on yourself. Have fun!
People of the United States! We are Unitarian Jihad! We can strike without warning. Pockets of reasonableness and harmony will appear as if from nowhere! Nice people will run the government again! There will be coffee and cookies in the Gandhi Room after the revolution.

Arguing with a Unitarian Universalist is like mud wrestling a pig. Pretty soon you realize the pig likes it.

Jenne, it sounds to me like your use of "good intentions" could also be said as, "doing the least amount of effort required so as not to look like a no-good shit."

At first, I was going to say that "good intentions" could be something as simple as doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, but they don't like what you like.

Then I realized that's just a lack of effort.  If they really were good-intentioned, they'd actually find out what it is you'd like, and then do that.  They're leaping into a situation, holding their ignorance like a shield.  "But I didn't know you were allergic to peanuts!  I just wanted to give you a cookie!  How was I to know!?"

Well, you could have taken the time to ask, numbnuts.

This seems inconsistant with the meaning of the phrase.

Often times people are trying to do seriously good thing, that just turn out wrong because of unforseen factors. It's not malice or laziness or greed. It was good intent, just wrong action.

I disagree with your first statement because someone well intended (in my eyes) is trying to do good, many times in spite of looking bad.

But this could all be misunderstanding your interpretation of the cliche.

My opinion, (and I know you're dying to hear it) is that you are over simplifying the questions.

If the human condition is phallable then how can one trust in the self?

Do we all not need mirrors in our lives to keep us in check?  Is this not proven by the fact extreeme sensory deprivation as well as mass over stimulation leads to insanity?

I'm not dissagreeing with your statement, I tend to agree with it, however, I'd like to know the motivations behind it.  Is it simply "I'm right because I said so," or is there something deeper going on?

Please elaborate.

I think the answer is painfully obvious.
The bun-sellers or cake-makers were in nothing inclinable to their request; but,which was worse,did injure them most outrageously,called them prattling gabblers,lickorous gluttons,freckled bittors,mangy rascals,shite-a-bed scoundrels,drunken roysters,sly knaves,drowsy loiterers,slapsauce fellows,slabberdegullion druggels,lubberly louts,cozening foxes,ruffian rogues,paltry customers,sycophant-varlets,drawlatch hoydens,flouting milksops,jeering companions,staring clowns,forlorn snakes,ninny lobcocks,scurvy sneaksbies,fondling fops,base loons,saucy coxcombs,idle lusks,scoffing braggarts,noddy meacocks,blockish grutnols,doddipol-joltheads,jobbernol goosecaps,foolish loggerheads,flutch calf-lollies,grouthead gnat-snappers,lob-dotterels,gaping changelings,codshead loobies,woodcock slangams,ninny-hammer flycatchers,noddypeak simpletons,turdy gut,shitten shepherds,and other suchlike defamatory epithets; saying further,that it was not for them to eat of these dainty cakes...

You're over simplifying the answers.

Google "maybe logic".

Oh, and the word "phallable" doesn't exist.
