Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciate the fact that you're at least putting effort into sincerely arguing your points. It's an argument I've enjoyed having. It's just that your points are wrong and your reasons for thinking they're right are stupid.

Every ,ÄúBob,Äùdamned time I say ,ÄúI hate,Äù this or that, I hear those ever-enraging words from new-agers and hippies.
,ÄúOh, you shouldn,Äôt hate.  Be Positive.,Äù
,ÄúHate is a bad emotion.,Äù
,ÄúHate gets you nowhere in life.,Äù

WHAT?  Hate gets me nowhere?  What the fuck are you assholes talking about?
I really think that these Pink dipshits have never even FELT real Hate in their lives.

HATE GETS YOU EVERYWHERE IN LIFE!!!
Hate is one of the greatest motivators in the world, and these pansies would shun it?!

I say let them.  If they don,Äôt want it, then fine, more for me.

Know what I think?  I think they,Äôre scared of it.  They see that Hate is powerful, that Hate is useful, nay, that Hate is FUN, and they think ,Äúanything this awesome can,Äôt be really as good as it seems.,Äù

Well, hippies, the joke,Äôs on you, because Hate is ALL that it,Äôs cracked up to be, and THEN SOME!  Gallon for gallon, Hate is 30 times more efficient than Gasoline!

So, fuck you if you,Äôre scared of a little Hate.  Or a lot of Hate.  Because Hate makes the world go round (the scientists would tell you it was gravity that does that, but who ya gonna believe, some scientist, or a Doktor?)

I haven't ranted in a long ass time, so I'm a touch rusty.  Advice would be apprecieated.

Oh, you shouldn,Äôt hate.  Be Positive.

Triple Zero

actually the trick is neither hate nor love.

- you can hate and be very productive (some people on this board are good examples of this), leverage the burning hate as a source of energy.
- but you can also hate and be a whining pessimistic misanthropic emo fuck about it, and sort of wallow in your own hate until it starts to smell because you really should refresh it more often (or rather, burn it).

- you can love and be positive, and be a smelly hippie that is completely chilled out about anything having some very convoluted ideas about how the world works and should work right up until one of them haters (either one) hits them in the face with a barstool.
- but you can also love and be positive and be smart about it, use the positivism as leverage to get energy, learn stuff, inspire other people, i dunno, positive people can also be very good at that sort of thing.

so, really, neither is the solution. hate is not the only thing that makes the world go round. neither is love. both of them aren't all they're cracked up to be, and yet they can be that, too.

and don't come and say "oh but if you're an emo fuck about it, that's not REAL hate, you're not doing it properly", because the positivist will come and say the same thing "if you're a dreamy hippie with his head in the clouds, that's not REAL love, you're not doing it properly".

leading to the conclusion:

it's neither hate nor love, you just have to do it properly

(the rest is left as an exercise to the reader)

little disclaimer: i'm aware that "positivism" is some sort of social/philosophical movement thing. i wasn't talking about that, i don't know what it is, but i used the word to generally relate to a person who has a positive outlook on life (in the most vaguest way of meaning as you see fit) as opposed to the one who uses hate to fuel himself

Turn on, turn off. They all have their uses.

Most are subject to abuse, same as any other drug.

Most human are addicted to one emotion or another.

They seem to think emotions are some sort of magical state of being that just happens to them.

They don't realise they are simply hooked on a neurological reaction to a chemical discharge.

This lack of awareness extends to them not realising they are constantly subconsciously manoeuvring themselves into situations which provide fuel for the specific emotion they crave.

It's fucking hilarious to watch, especially with emotions which are generally considered to be negative.

Depression is one of my favourites. Try telling someone they're doing it to themselves and watch the incredulous pained look appear on their face :lulz:

yeah, but if it's clinical there isn't anything they can do about it themselves.  For everyone else, there is some truth to what you say.  though, I chalk it up to people just wanting attention.  Seriously, we never grow out of that one.

I've found myself savouring that look on their faces more and more recently.

Then again a lot of people still refuse to see it that way. I generally get drunk with them and get as many laughs as I can before they attempt their next 'suicide'.

Dunno what it is around these here parts, but a lot of people are doing the "woe is me" shtick fairly regularly.

I would say one exception would be negative emotions as a result of constant, chronic pain.

It's really hard to force yourself to be upbeat and happy when it feels like someone is taking a powerdrill to your achilles tendon non-stop for 96 hours.

I agree with that point LMNO - some situations will put you under extreme duress and it's a hard to keep smiling but when it comes to 'chemical imbalance' I'm afraid that in most cases I see that as chicken and egg. Emotions are caused by the emission of peptide chains, from the hypothalamus, interfacing with brain cells. Neural peptides will affect most of the cells in your body (it's how your brain tells the cells what to do) which in turn will create feedback loops and can lead to anything from organ failure to cancer.

Yes there are plenty other things that can cause these effects but the part that your own attitude plays is grossly understated.

Take my own example - I was diagnosed acute bipolar as a result of severe chemical imbalance. I was put on a course of tranquillisers and the famous lithium which I traded for hash as soon as the law no longer required me to go for regular blood tests.

After a year or so of getting my head straight the imbalance had magically fixed itself.

My opinion - the chemical imbalance was caused by my way of thinking, and not vice versa.

I'm not saying the meds wouldn't have worked but I feel I learned a lot more from doing it the hard way and I wasn't left with a nasty chemical dependency at the end of it.

I do my absolute best to keep the fourth circuit lit and separate my "self" from my "emotions". The best tool I've found is the old Chaos Magic maxim, "Banish with Laughter".

Because it's an important skill to be able to remove yourself from your mire and laugh at what a tard you sound like. That should be in the Discordian Self Help manual - don't take your baggage so seriously.

eh, but it's a struggle sometimes.
