The importance of the media is ideological correctness.  You can be about as far right as you want, so long as you do not use racial slurs, and you can be as far 'left' as Chris Matthews.

But that doesn't matter, because any strategy that relies on media consent is doomed to failure.  You have to start with things the media have to report.  Gossip, innuendo, rumour, spread via the blogs.  Phone in's, trolling as crazy-right wing veterans.  Framing events through careful manipulation of the above so that once it comes to the fore in the media, it is already accepted as plausible, or at least juicy.
