I noticed a  ofcouple newspeak memes on here, and i'm wondering if they are being used ironically, or if you guys are seriously using newspeak.

eg; lail (i have been led to beleive is LOL and fail)
spag (i have been led to beleive is spastic and fag)
any others?

Payne

Spag has got nothing to do with spastic or fag.

It is just "Spag".

Lail is from before my time. I didn't witness its creation.

spag is indeed just spag. also you say you have been led to believe it means spastic and fag? by who?

also, i'm not entirely sure if LAIL is LOL+FAIL, could be random bastardiizaytion too. but in either way, how's that newspeak?

I think he has mistaken portmanteau for Newspeak.

Easy enough mistake to make.

If you've never actually read 1984. Or taken English lessons beyond holding a pen and writing your name.

Of course, words like "Lail" and "Spag" may just be part of a plot to make it impossible for anyone here to deviate in anyway from our ideological principles, and for our communications to define precisely what we mean while still leaving the art of subtlety (for to terrorise the proles).

I mean, in a forum with Evil Geniuses and assorted others from the Wrong Side of the Tracks, anything is possible.

newspeak=the deliberate use of ambiguous and deceptive talk, as by government officials, in an attempt to control public opinion

newspag= the deliberate use of  ambiguous and undefined language, as by discordians, in an attempt to inspire uncontrolled chaotic thought

Nah.

Newspag = Short-hand in-jokes repeated over and over again until they either become funny, or they take on new meaning, which can also be funny. But probably isn't.

Work best if they seem to imply something else such as Spag having anything to do with Fag.

I see no problems with this, at all.

How could you? What's not to like?
