i find the genre "period movies" ironic

I bet there's lots of women that monthly watch Chocolat, how's that ironic?

That movie was cute, but I don't get what's so great about it.

um you didnt get it

"period" movie :rimshot:

gettit?

(also I thought it was really really boring, but after my third tripel you generally need lots of explosions and vin diesel to keep my attention anywhere)

e-prime disclaimer: let it seem fairly unclear I understand the apparent subjectivity of the above statements. maybe.

No, I totally got it, I just chose to ignore it in the face of the more pressing issue; that of WTF was supposed to be so great about it.  :lulz:

Johnny Depp. Hawt.

But if that's not enough...
Been awhile since I've seen it, but if I remember right, I thought the plot was interesting, too. Unique in my range of movie experience.
People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost.

Independent female.

Mother-daughter conflict.

Church/Secular conflict.

Can Man be redeemed by the Church?

The question of "what is truly sacred".

The "noble savage" trope.

Whether a nomadic existence isn't just a way of running from your problems.

Well, that certainly sums up the plot quite thoroughly.

By why do people LIKE it so much?

Because of its timeless simplicity and incredible similarity to a Lifetime special?

Cain

BECAUSE ITS FOREIGN AND DOESN'T HAVE A PLOT REVOLVING AROUND BLOWING SHIT UP AND IS THEREFORE CLEARLY A WORK OF ART NOT SEEN SINCE THE DAYS OF CASABLANCA

Nothing wrong with that. Everyone knows that Back to the Future Part II was the last good American movie.

Kurt Christ

Labyrinth
May
Others which have already been mentioned.
Formerly known as the Space Pope (then I was excommunicated), Father Kurt Christ (I was deemed unfit to raise children, spiritual or otherwise), and Vartox (the speedo was starting to chafe)

Reverend Smeg the Kilted

Slither (cheezy, but in a self-referential way).
Serenity (and the series, too. Browncoats FTW)
Zombie movies in general. Especially if they don't take themselves too seriously (see: Shaun of the Dead, Army of Darkness, etc).
DOOMSDAY.
Many others which have been mentioned already.

I thought that movie sucked, but I did find it funny that they had Glasgow turn into a city of Mad Max-style cannibals after a few years.

Soup

Muppets from Space
Sin City
Second Hand Lions
The Illusionist
