I'm one of those dirty filthy socialists.

Seeing as the US is one of those ultra conservative countries where people are still living in the red scare, being interested in social democracy is discouraging funny as hell.

Fixed.

Trust me, Kai, one day you'll be just as bitter and hateful as me, once you've observed the monkeys for a little bit longer.  They aren't a cute species that will amuse you with their antics, and break your heart with their tragedies...they are filthy beasts that can't act in their own best interests because the only thing they really do well is program themselves.  They truly believe that for them to win, others must lose, and they approve of that idea.

Kill them all.

All of them.  With the possible exceptions of this board and the Amish.  And I'm not too sure about the Amish.

i have a belief system with no name , every time i pick a label that i think describes my political philosophy, i find out some gibbering primate has called them self the same thing and spouted some of the stupidest crap imaginable as being the tenants of that political groups philosophy...

This. I've grown quite comfortable with it.

Yeah me too, I use the "belief system with no name" line whenever I want to make an excuse for spouting stupid crap!

Precisely! That way my stupid crap only gets associated with me and not with an undeserving group of people who might otherwise be sharing a label with me.

I have a name thats unique.  However, I don't tell it to anyone because I *know* it'll get stolen by the monkeys.

Has historical precedent provided a viable alternative strategy? I mean - is the current situation surprising?

The problem doesn't seem to be that "they" can't act in "their" own best interests, but that the proper communication explaining what is in their own best interests has not been received. Or even possibly sent.

Of course, first of all you'd need to figure out what is in everyones best interest, but that's probably the easiest part of the whole deal.

Point!

Communication is a key issue here and most people seem bent on sending communication rather than receiving it. RAW stated that real communication was only possible among equals. Once there is a hierarchy, meaningful communication suffers. In the current debates on health care etc... there isn't a feeling of equality. Some of the citizens on the Right assume that the left is evil and trying to destroy the country, some on the Left assume that those on the Right are evil racists bent on turning everyone Christian. Neither of the vocal groups seem to see the group they NEED to communicate with as equals... they see them as something less. Meanwhile Congress seems intent to push forward with whatever the majority can jam through, with neither side acting as though the representatives or Senators from across the aisle are equals.

Most forms of anarchism try to manage this issue by making everyone an equal partner in the society through voluntary association. In our current scenario, that would mean that those who like the idea of group health care would voluntarily agree to the terms negotiated. Those who disagree would not be part of the agreement. Generally, this would lead to a more calm and cool discussion, since no one would fear being forced to do something against their will. They could communicate as equal partners in a society, rather than the only TRUE Citizens, because the other side is GONNA DESTROY AMERICA.

I said their, as in their individual best interest.  I'm not sure what their individual best interest is, but it probably isn't represented by the raping they vote for from the party of their "choice" every few years.

I know what MY best interest is.  Mostly it involves shoveling monkeys into space.

I'll still take optimism. I'd rather have five maybe solutions, than no solution excpet bitching, moaning and throwing feces ;-)

Pessimist ;-)

EDIT: There have been several social groups that have existed in states of more or less equality... none seem to have been perfect.

But then in a democracy where elections appear to be stolen, elected officials tend to ignore or embrace the views of their constituents solely for political gain and Policemen shoot Fire Chiefs in the middle of a courtroom... bitching about other forms of governing seems a bit like lobbing chunks of granite from inside a glass mansion.
