I'm pretty sure, ECH, that people just don't want to feel like you'll shut down the board if they say something you don't like, and mentioning it once in any situation is likely to cause that fear. It causes a breakdown of communication in which admins won't tell other admins when they disagree, and no one will get anything good done. I'm sure we can all work something out without threatening to burn fucking everything.

I don't recall threatening to shut down the boards.

Well then, take it for future reference. Not trying to cause more trouble than what already exists, here.

Is this going to turn into one of those boards where we get public spankings by Big Daddy if we step out of line?

why is it that anytime I voice my opinion on board matters, I'm made out to be Mussolini-in-waiting? Am I not allowed to have and voice my opinion regarding these matters?

Because you don't just interject your opinion, in this case, but also connected your opinion to your ownership of the board.

FWIW, there are going to be alot more public dressings-down unleashed around here, and only a tiny percentage of them will likely be aimed at you. I know everyone gets all huffy when I try to have an influence on the culture and direction of, y'know, my own website, but I actually don't give a shit since I'm more concerned about the culture and direction of this site than I am about anyone here's personal opinion of me.

For your consideration, ECH.

You're a special case, Babylon.  You are offensive even when you don't post.

Because every time you voice your opinion regarding these matters, in addition to simply just stating your opinion, you feel the need to point out that this is your site to somehow make your opinion carry more weight than others--while afaik you just own the domain name, whereas Faust pays for and manages the server, if I'm not mistaken. And most importantly, the community, that sort of spirit that makes this place so special, is created from the synergy of all of us.

And saying things like this:

Quote from: East Coast Hustle on October 05, 2009, 04:34:18 AMor, y'know, it could just be the internet and I could just be trying to gauge whether or not I even want to bother continuing with this site.

I mean, we all want to hear your opinion. Really. But if every time you state it, you feel the need to add weight to it by saying stuff like this, instead of just discussing it with the rest of everybody (Cain and Roger never pull the admin card, for instance).

And some of us contribute to the costs as well right through the donation button?  So practically it is community owned and supported and I think it works best if we think of it and treat it that way.  Am I off on that?

We were doing fun stuff.  A lot of writing, a couple of new projects, GASM's going strong...so the logical thing to do is Byzantine back room dealings and threats of public reprimands.  We'll get all the golden eggs out of that goose yet.

Fact is, as I expected, ECH was on the level about these emails.  I'm a little tired of wearing boiler plate on my back, to be perfectly honest.  I'm a little tired of drama fucking up every burst of creativity this place begins to enjoy, and I'm really tired of it all being for our own good.  I'm tired of the factionalization and the ridiculous dick-measuring contests.  I'm tired of hanging on through yet another monster pissing contest.  I'm just plain tired.

Suggestions about board direction are not back room dealings.  Ideas about how to improve board productivity and creativity are not designed to derail current projects.  I kept my objections quiet precisely to avoid such drama.

Quote from: fictionpuss on October 05, 2009, 08:46:33 PMWith regards constructive criticism and bashing of newbies, I received quite a few supportive PMs during my flaming episodes and those made the difference between me leaving and trying again. So that is an option, or better still.. inject the constructive criticism directly into the thread.

Not speaking for anyone else, cultivating this approach is what I had in mind.

Thanks.  I'll look into the full Adobe version.

I've got money to burn, so ease of use and reliability are far more important than cost.

you might want to check out some other pieces of software perhaps, this is professional graphics design software (for making books and magazines), it is reliable, but "ease of use" isn't really the first thing that comes to mind when I think of InDesign. as in, you probably need to read a few tutorials before you get the hang of it. although if you got money to burn, there's perfectly good introductionary books for InDesign at nearly every computer book store.
btw I'm not saying that you couldn't figure it out, just that, it's not a program that allows one to quickly WOMP something together.

and there are most definitely tools out there that will in fact do just that, only that, and in an easy to use manner (and don't cost $699). except I don't know what they are. but if you tell me what your needs / goals / etc are, I could try to help find something.

Thanks.  I just want the capability to create and edit PDF files.

If you want to convert text documents, consider downloading Open Office.  Its a free program, and it is what I have used in the past to create pdf texts.  Quality is questionable though.

Or I'll just shut up, because apparently I'm fuelling the drama.

LMNO

I totally forgot about Open Office.

That just might work.

But let's not forget that a lot depends on the scanner you're using.
