Mariners are gonna win the AL West this year.

Also, if tampa's GM were any good at his job, he'd have found a way to move them to the NL East by now, where they would run away with the division every year.

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Suu

They can't go NL East because the Marlins are in the market for Florida.

Now...If Miami were to say, blow off the map, however...

You don't think an intrastate/intradivision rivalry would sell more tickets, create more interest, and make at least 2 teams in the NL relevant?

It would, but MLB says NO.

My dad cried the day they were announced to be in the AL East, you know. He whimpered like a little girl. But even anyone who finishes in 3rd place in the Black and Blue Division still has better stats than the entire NL. They just have to suffer with the pussy DH rules.

FACT: If tampa was allowed to play as the NL wild card in the postseason even though they play in the AL (provided they have the regular-season record to qualify) they would probably make the world series at least every other year.

And, of course, they'd still lose to the Sox or the Yankees.

I would totally be in favor or cutting the regular season back to 154 games and having two wild-card teams in each league who would have to play a 3-game series against each other for the right to play the top-seeded division winner in their league.

No. They beat the Sox. Every. Fucking. Time. They've been Red Sox killers since 1998, they just couldn't win anything else.

meaningless regular season game != 7 game playoff series.

no way TB's rotation holds up against Boston's in a 7 game series.

Regular season games are only meaningless until the All Star Break.

The only thing that Boston has going for them is experience from the older players. They have some newbs in their lineup this year and I think they're going to suffer for it, whereas Tampa isn't all newbs anymore, but I'm forever worried about their pitching.

Boston has alot of age issues in the field, but their rotation appears to be one of the top 4 or 5 in MLB, barring any catastrophic injury. Beckett is an ace on most teams, and he's only the 2nd or 3rd best starter on the team. Lester is listed as 9-1 to win the AL Cy Young this year (Hernandez, Sabbathia, and Greinke are the only AL pitchers with better vegas odds IIRC) and Buchholtz is probably the best 3rd starter in the AL. Mind you, I'm no Sox fan, and they definitely have some middle-relief issues, but their starting rotation would cause me some serious indigestion and lost sleep if I were the opposing manager in a 7 game series.

Unless I were, say, Don Wakamatsu and had Hernandez and Lee starting 4 of those 7 games.

Yeah, but can you win games with pitching alone?
