Good article. 

I didn't find out until this morning.  I had just finished feeding the boy (at 4 am) and I didn't have enough time to really get any more sleep so I was checking the MSNBC.com site and that's when I read the headline.  I think my exact words were "Fuck!" 

I just had a feeling in my gut (no pun intended, seriously) when Dio announced he was undergoing stomach cancer treatment that he wasn't going to make it. 

The guy was a legend.  His voice pretty much encapsulated Metal.  It was powerful, soaring, and gritty at the same time.  And from all accounts, he was the nicest guy in the scene.  He'd take time to talk to anyone.  A true Metal ambassador.  And man, the new stuff he was creating with Heaven and Hell ran circles around the new Metalcore crap.  It's trite but true, he will be missed.
