Just remarking on the happy endings the free market has brought this family, is all.

But this isn't an issue of the Free Market in any way shape or form. A Free Market in that situation would have had competing fire departments trying to get his business.

This is much more an issue of the lack of common decency on the part of the firefighters.

I'm confused.  Why didn't the son simply rationally understand that this was merely the result of market forces at work?  I'm sure most people would behave in a much more level-headed fashion under the circumstances.

Of course not. The guy was upset, he lashed out, he got arrested. It happens everyday, all over the country... even in places where taxes cover the fire dept.
