MysticWicks endorsement: "I've always, always regarded the Discordians as being people who chose to be Discordians because they can't be arsed to actually do any work to develop a relationship with a specific deity, they were too wishy-washy to choose just one path, and they just want to be a mishmash of everything and not have to work at learning about rituals or traditions or any such thing as that."

JENNE REPORTING FROM WEST BANK AMURRICA:

Sitation holding.  Fog in San Diego has not lifted yet.  Nothing yet to see, Folks.

Move along.  Move along.

But in all seriousness:  I'd take a realtime photo from my backyard that faces due West with an oceanview, but there's seriously nothing to see--can't see Catalina island yet.  I'm sure our local stations are wetting themselves over this, but I can't watch just yet b/c I'm working.

Telarus

My girlfriend, as graveyard sup, had to call and advise a bunch of the coastal inns to evacuate.

We got a Huge set of waves, with a little bit of a pull-out ("psuedo-low-tide") beforehand.

We'll see, but it looks pretty chill so far.

It did trigger 4.5 off the Southeast coast of the Big Island (Hawaii), near the new volcano on the sea floor.

Oh shit, I think I just snorted coffee out of my nose.  When asked whether the US military would help in Japan, CNN Pentagon correspondent, Barbara Starr responded:

Well, this is a pretty good explanation as to why shit happening in Japan/Indonesia has small effects on us here in So Cal (I live about 30 mi from that San Onofre Power Plant, btw):

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/mar/10/tsunami-huge-japanese-quake-wont-affect-california/?sciquest

QuoteBut it is unlikely that the event will cause any damage here, or even be noticeable. Small tsunami waves have rolled into Southern California before, including 1.4' waves that were generated by a Chilean tsunami last year. But this region has never been hit by a large tsunami.

"We are in a different tectonic region than Japan or Cascadia or Indonesia," Frank Vernon, a research seismologist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, said early today. "We have strike-slip faults earthquakes. The main fault (San Andreas) is inland from us. The major faults in japan and Cascadia and Indonesia are offshore where, where the tsunamis can be generated."

Even so, authorities are urging caution about the tsunami, which started on the seafloor, about 5,800 miles northwest of San Diego.

With the coast fogged in, people hoping to see any major waves are being advised to stay home. Maurice Luque, spokesman for San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, said there are no closures related to the coming waves, adding people concerned about the waves should not call 911, but instead can dial 619-570-1070 for information.

Energy from the tsunami will arrive in San Diego County about 45 minutes after low tide. And the tsunami will arrive when the local wind-generated surf is only in the 2' to 3' range. The tsunami could add to the size of those waves, or come in as individual waves. The change is likely to be subtle, if noticeable at all, and it may occur while there's still patchy fog on the coast.

The ocean surge would pose no danger to the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, according to a statement issued by Southern California Edison, which operates the power plant in northern San Diego County, near the Orange County line.

"The plant's protective measures include a reinforced tsunami wall 30 feet above sea level," said company spokesman Gil Alexander in the written statement.

The news of tsunami waves heading this way does not appear to be a major worry yet, at least for San Diego's surfing community.

"Obviously, I'm going out surfing so this is not much of a concern," Scott Olson of Clairemont said at 6:30 a.m. today. " If there had been big waves in Hawaii, I might have thought differently."
