Misuse of "karma" all over the fucking place. Those people need a swift kick in the junk. BTW, why are they blaming Japan for that shitty movie with Ben Affleck? Sure, they provided the historical basis, and I agree that SOMEONE needs to be punished for it, but Hollywood, not Japan.
No, no. Karma is the thing that fucks up your enemies for being mean to you while you watch and laugh, for similar reasons as those God chose to wait all this time for surprise revenge.
So, are you saying that 70 years from now Hollywood will be devastated by a Tsunami for making that utter atrocity? So I can watch and laugh?
I'd mention it to your Rain God now, just to make sure it's on the To Do list.

Reports are stating that not only did the quake move Japan's coastline 8 feet, it shifted the Earth on it's axis by four inches.

Triple Zero

Over 10,000 missing, at least 1700 confirmed dead, and I just saw a very disturbing video of a huge tidal wave of black water engulfing loads of stuff that oughtn't be engulfed, as well as seemingly folding a boat in order to pull it under a bridge ... damn.

At least it seems the nuclear situation isn't as critical as feared. They evacuated loads of people. handing out preventive iodine tablets, but even if the thing goes into complete meltdown (which it probably won't) it'll never be a second Chernobyl, because (I'm not 100% clear) it was not a "fast" reactor, or because it was in a cooling-down phase when it happened.

Except for those damn Germans. Maybe I got the wrong impression, but I thought what they did was really tasteless. See, their previous government had a lot of power to the green party and manages to push a brilliant plan to make Germany nuclear-free by 2020 or 2030 or so (whether this actually is a good idea or not is not important now). Except now they got a new gvmt that's a bit more right-wing and naturally they're backing out of the long-term plans. So the Greenies are mad as fuck and have been protesting and shit and nuclear power is a huge theme in Germany anyway, and (according to my gf) they're in fact really an easily-scared bunch of people.
So guess what those fucking green vultures were doing yesterday evening? Yeah that's right, they grabbed the maybe-exploding nuclear facility in Japan as an opportunity to once more emphasize the DANGERS and SCARYNESS and HORRIBLE DANGER DISASTER BWEEP BWEEP BWEEP BOOP  and oh yeah 10,000 people are missing and 1700 confirmed dead and tsunamis and DID WE MENTION NUCLEAR POWER IS BAD? CHECK OUT THIS STOCK FOOTAGE OF HORRIBLE SHIT THAT HAPPENED IN CHER - NO - BY - LL AND HA - RIS - BUR - G-G-G-G-G AND SE - LA - FIEL - D-D-D-D (oh yes they were playing the relevant Kraftwerk tune, which was the only good thing, and they were nice enough to not mention to line about HI - RO - SHI - MA which of course has nothing to do with nuclear reactors)

Anyway, it's one thing if you were going to have a theme night about the dangers of nuclear power, but it's another thing if you're gonna abuse a terrible catastrophic event and ride the attention to push your political agenda (which is about the nuclear energy program in Germany and has nothing to do with the aftermath of a natural disaster in Japan).

And oh yeah, 10,000 missing, over 1700 confirmed dead, 215,000 in emergency shelters.

Oh and ONE OTHER THING. Something I learned only after I gave some monies to Haiti. Understand that you want to give money, the horror is all in your face right there on TV, so yeah give, but PLEASE ALSO give the SAME AMOUNT to some random other good cause that's combating al least as terrible horrors on this planet but doesn't have the good fortune of catching the global media's eye, and maybe never will.

(I dunno, probably somewhere there's women being raped systematically or people being tortured, kids scavenging garbage mountains, that kind of stuff, nobody wants to look at, just split it 50/50 with Japan)

That is pretty represenatative of how all major Green and Environmental parties abuse nuclear tragedies, hyping worries about reactors well beyond any reasonable level.

Admittedly, it does not help when scientists, politicians and regulators then take the exact opposite view.

A healthy respect for the real health risks while maintaining a robust regulatory model would negate pretty much all concerns, if a government had the self-discipline to not let the energy sector lead it around by the nose constantly.

It's a good thing that most nuclear power plants have safeties installed so that during a nuclear meltdown, the core actually melts around and seals the reactive material in place. This is what's supposed to happen. Chernobyl was poorly designed.

The worse part is listening to all these idiots PRAYING for the Japanese. Fuck you and your nonexistant non-interfering deity of choice. Either you can send money for international aid or resign yourself that there's not a damn thing you can do to help. Fucking ghouls.

No, the worst part is the jackasses who rant about how this is "payback" for "nuking Pearl Harbor". <--- Not kidding.  Someone said that.
