I've seen many artists offer a "5% of this weeks sales go to the relief effort" meme in order to reacquire their customer's attentions.

Yep, I jumped on that bandwagon right away. It generated five sales.

What's kind of hilarious about all of this is that I realized that, at the point when the government decided to "bail out" the banks, they could have achieved a fantastically better economic recovery by simply mandating a 3-month mortgage payment deferral.

Glittersnatch would be a rather unfortunate condition, if a halfway decent troll name.

We appear to be doomed by our DNA to repeat the same destructive behaviors our forebears have repeated for millenia. If anything our problem solving skills have actually diminished with the advent of technology & our ubiquitous modern conveniences. & yet despite our predisposition towards fear-driven hostility; towards what we anachronistically term primitive behavior another instinct is just as firmly encoded in our make-up. We are capable as our ancestors were of incredible breathtaking acts of kindness. Every hour of every day a man risks his life at a moments notice to save another. Forget for a moment the belligerent benevolent billionaires who grant the unfortunate a crumb of costfree cake. I speak of pure acts of selflessness. A Mother who rushes into the street to save a child from a speeding vehicle. A person who runs into a burning building to reach a family trapped on the upper story. Such actions, such moments, such unconscious selfless decisions, define what it is to be human

I'm soooo going to hell.

Also, NPR is reporting that most of the radiation is the gas vents from the plant is iodine 131, this is... not so good.  Short half life, but it concentrates in the thyroid gland, so the effective dose is going to be a lot higher for anybody who breaths the stuff in.  Iodine pills are being passed out to prevent cancer.

I uh

mostly can't believe you didn't hear about this on the 17th, when the Japanese government issued iodine as a preventative measure in case of a meltdown.

So it was in the news?  I never heard anything about it till yesterday, now its all over the place.

Jenne

...yeah, the issuing of iodine came out when they were making Californians and the rest of the Left Coast run around worrying about radiation sickness.

Requia ☣

Oh, no wonder I missed it.  I thought that was the left coast being the left coast.

:lulz:  It probably was, but it had a tinge of information coloring the hysteria.
