Sounds great. I've been looking at a short break somewhere before finding another sucker client so I'll have to add it to the "worth considering" list. Though we'll probably just end up back in Paris.

Language attacks are great fun. I think I know "Sorry, I'm a tourist but I'm going to try anyway" in about half a dozen languages.

Maybe?  It's not overpoweringly offensive, so you can ignore it on the street, and when you go inside it's no longer noticeable, but I was only there for the day.

I intend to go back, but when it is considerably colder, and so cheaper, and deserted.  It probably wont smell as much then because of the lack of heat, too.

I'm sure I've heard from a friend who has been to Venice before that it can suffer from the same problems, on very hot days.  It doesn't always get insanely hot there, but when it does, it can be in the 40s (celsius), so it sounds plausible.

That aside, I think you'd enjoy it.  It's good food, stunning scenery and excellent wine.  Maybe a bit pricey, for the American exchange rate, but Tuscany and Veneto are very expensive places anyway, so when factored in it is not too bad.

I am not an engineer.  For one thing, I am sometimes wrong.  For another thing, other people are sometimes right.  Lastly, I cannot balance a coffee mug on my gut and walk around.
