I'd say he's pulled off an inspired bit of trolling, getting anyone to believe there's a woman out there that would actually agree to marry him. :lulz:

I don't care what he says about time spans, or how fast his grandparents got engaged, this isn't the early 20th Century anymore.

He's looking to replace his wife, though normally, single men buy cars instead.

Yeah and thats why yer man-o is probably making a mistake. Even if it does end up lasting for the duration of their lives hes not going into this with a clear head and his head might still not be clear a year from now. Being in recently love as far as ive heard is indistinguishable from being insane. Well. Its his mistake to repeat.

BF and I have already discussed that the only reason why we would ever get married is so that I can have good health benefits if the job I eventually get does not provide. Neither of us see any real reason for marriage, after having both been married previously. Hell, we aren't even sure if we're going to survive his upcoming billet or future deployments. Everything is just far too dynamic.

The guy's got his head wrong. He's making bitter tea. His map is written in crayon, and is tracing Mr Roger's neighborhood. But for serious, the ad homonim stuff makes me uncomfortable.

Understandable. But I feel at this point, he's practically asking for it. Maybe it's just time to stop paying attention to him all together.

Well as far as the remarriage bit it is out of genuine concern.
I might have my beefs with the guy but that doesnt mean he isnt a human being who deserves to be happy and that he and his fiancee would benefit from waiting to declare their intentions.

I appreciate the concern.  Sorry for calling you "assface" and for being belligerent with you.

It would be completely arbitrary and academic to wait a certain number of months to propose.  That is just an arbitrary life-game that doesn't consider individual situations.  In addition I would point out that I waited for almost two years before proposing to ex-Mrs WHN and look how that turned out.

Nothing is going to be different a year from now so, for me, it seems silly to wait a year just because that's what everyone else does.

Why should I delay?

She and I are both knocking on 40.  We have both experienced a LOT of life.  We are both pretty clear on what we want in a mate, and luckily works out that we have fit the bill pretty well for each other.

So what am I waiting for other than a predetermined socially accepted amount of time?

What difference does a predetermined socially accepted ceremony make? Other than, y'know, it'll cost a fortune if you change your mind, once you get to know her.
