This term Thursdays are the worst, as I leave the house at 8:30 and have back to back classes for approximately 12 hours, with one 45 minute break at 4.

I am still jet lagged and the combination of jet lag, doxycycline, and being woken up at odd times is causing me to wake up hallucinating consistently. Last night at around 2 am my daughter woke me up to help her with the printer, but I was in a sleeper car and she was East Indian and for some reason she couldn't understand that I'd already paid for my ticket. At least, I think that's what happened. I got a text from her this morning that she's in Seattle.

I would say people pay good money for that sort of experience, but in reality, that sounds wholly unpleasant and unnerving to wake up to. Especially in the midst of trying to focus school, get back in the swing of things and generally not hallucinate upon waking. Hope it clears up soon :(
There's no sun shine coming through her ass, if you are sure of your penis.

Paranoia is a disease unto itself, and may I add, the person standing next to you, may not be who they appear to be, so take precaution.

If there is no order in your sexual life it may be difficult to stay with a whole skin.

I slept for 12 hours last night and I feel much better now.

I've heard and read and believed for years that research shows that you can't "catch up on sleep" so I've been carefully going to bed at my scheduled time every night since I got back, and waking up at my scheduled time. The problem with that approach is that I was exhausted all week. I think that I should have gotten a solid 12 hours the first night, and that I would have been fine after that.

I'm going to do some more research into that whole thing. I think we've been misled.

In other news, I'm reading Warren Tryon's critique of psychological science and proposal for an integrated approach, and it is deliciously excoriating. An excerpt:

QuoteScience values parsimony. All else being equal, we prefer simpler interpretations. Parsimony also extends to theory. All else being equal, we prefer to use fewer theories to explain our facts. Ideally, one theory is best. Introductory psychology textbooks demonstrate that we are far from this ideal.

More:

QuoteThe second explanatory problem is that the theories and models that we do have are narrow and limited to a small part of psychology. For example, the Rescorla-Wagner model of classical conditioning (Rescorla & Wagner, 1972) has been successful within the limited domain of classical conditioning; however, classical conditioning is a very minor part of psychological science. The Rescorla-Wagner model of classical conditioning does not even generalize to operant conditioning, which was once thought to be an entirely different phenomenon, let alone generalize to other areas of psychology.

QuoteA search of Psych Info for "psychological mechanisms" on 11/11/11 returned 1,559 references, which demonstrates considerable interest in understanding how psychological phenomena are implemented. Unfortunately, most of these references fail to provide the details requested above. Instead, they impute causation without describing the sequence of causal steps that constitute causation; that is, detail how the mechanism operates. We currently need but do not have adequate mechanism information for most psychological phenomena. This includes how and why our empirically supported treatments work. We have yet to identify their active ingredients.

I'm enjoying this far too much.

So are there moderators on this forum or do we moderate ourselves?

Mostly the latter, unless we fail so miserably at it that someone who has a legal or other deeply vested interest in the forum is forced to step in.

In other words, like any forum hosted on servers that are localized, it isn't Usenet.

Yep, almost anything goes, just don't do anything that gets the owner arrested.

Don't expect to get out of here unscathed if you act like a dick though, there be bears in these woods.
