Thinking about weird shit that amounts to nothing is not the same as actually thinking about nothing.  Complete empty no-thing-ness.  The first time you get there it is like

It is just that fast.  As soon as the realisation hits that you have completely emptied your mind, that realisation breaks the'spell' and becomes the thought that is there so there is no longer nothing there.  Understand why it is hard to get this from a book?  Or even by talking to someone?        

I do understand, cause I was trying to say how hard it is to get that blank mind by putting in the random crap. And I know what you're saying, with the fragments of thought occasionally. But I really do need to empty my mind to sleep. Otherwise I'll just be lying awake thinking random shit.

Ok, I get where you're coming from.  That's what I do.  Some people meditate in the morning.  I have no idea how that works for them, but it does.  There is no for me to quiet my mind enough to sleep without meditating first.  Sometimes, if I am really exhausted I can drop right off, but very often.  I never have trouble going to sleep when I need a nap, though.  Weird.

I always found moving meditations easier.  Perhaps that is just due to martial arts.  I find it very easy to meditate whilst performing a pattern from traditional Tae Kwon Do, or some of the one person Ju-jitsu ones.

Hmm, dancing has never had that effect on me.  I think it has something t do with the patterns being a sythesis of natural and conscious effort.  I know instinctively each move, its hardwired into the nerves, yet I have to concentrate on getting it perfect (or close as I can).  Somehow that allows me to think intuitiely about things, and relax more also.  And scare the shit out of people on my floor when I kiai at the end
