I'm torn between two not quite accurate choices. . .
Atheist - I believe in no gods
Atheist - there are no gods, fact- there are also no fairies at the bottom of my garden, I can't actually prove it but that hardly makes my healthy scepticism viv a vis the likelihood of their existence a "belief"
I believe in Eris as an entity but do not follow other Gods
I believe that Eris as a useful heuristic but I do not follow 'her' any more than I follow any of the other non-existent Gods people are so prone to invent

also - how is this project going Cramulus?

but since I self-define as an atheist that's what got my vote

Quote

Former Home Secretary David Blunkett is recovering after being injured by a charging cow in Derbyshire.

The incident happened on Saturday while Mr Blunkett was out walking on his 62nd birthday with his guide dog Sadie in the Peak District.

It is believed the cow ran at the dog and while trying to protect her, the blind MP fell and was trampled.

He suffered a broken rib and "painful bruising" but was declared well enough to attend a Labour Party meeting later.

A spokesman for Mr Blunkett said: "He has a broken rib and a lot of painful bruising, but he's all right and, given the critical nature of the political circumstances at the moment, he is going - albeit extremely slowly - to be in London this week, doing his job."

had to share - sorry

NB Just a thought but this only works if PeedyDotCom is the be all and end all of Discordianism. There seems to be a lot of this going on lately. By trying to appropriate Wikia and such and flood them with local in-jokes and sub-cultural memes you are actually doing EXACTLY the same as the Really Realers you see lurking under every bed.  Personally I get pretty pissed off when people tell me how to be a Discordian No Matter Who They Are. I don't recall anyone ever suggesting that TFYS actually means Think Like I Do. Delightful Ironies ITT

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is that whole "not getting the fucking point" thing you may have heard about.  Notice how it resembles the plaintive cry of the Out of Power Republican, who insists that anything that doesn't glorify Whites is racism, that anything that doesn't involve Calvinism is "anti-Christianity", and that anything that doesn't involve kissing the boss's ass is "class warfare".  It's just that in this particular case, we are told that if we DON'T listen to the Pinealists explain what we HAVE to do to be Discordians, then obviously we must be control freaks of some kind.

your noise:signal ratio is so far out of whack that it deserves a medal roger but thanks for the welcome. I've made my point now so I'm gonna shut up and listen to see if any other thoughtful replies like Cain's and Nigel's get posted.

ps on the off chance that that is a serious reply - wow way to misrepresent me

Not necessarily.  All Discordian communities are made up of people (last time I checked) and for any given group of people its fair to assume some fall within a range of behaviour that is being described here.

Only difference is PD is one of the few Discordian communities where Pinealism is generally discouraged and abritrary categorization of our fellow humans is not, and so we've had the time to come up with such phrases to describe this behaviour.  Also we are probably the largest Discordian community, and so we have more experience of such things.

Edit: wow I need to have more coffee SLEEP.  I noticed three missing words before this edit, and had to put in another two.

- my bill is in the post - Dr MMIX's free advice for making your body love you

More seriously, Yeah I get what you are saying and I agree, actually, but there is a fine line between identifying that there are catmatic differences between the practices & non-beliefs of various flavour of Discordians and the marginalisation of certain mind-sets as being not acceptable practice because that inevitably leads to unwarranted assumptions that WE have got it right and YOU have got it all screwed up moron. I suspect there is no actual answer to this problem but that doesn't mean that it doesn't need restating on a fairly regular basis just to keep everyone on their toes. I almost said keep everybody honest, but I could hardly type it for laughing

QuoteIt's instinctual to make sense of the patterns we see, to assign some kind of order to the mystifying connections that continually occur around us.

QuoteMedical myths, however inaccurate they may be, will continue to persist because they make complicated material a little bit easier to wrap our heads around. So the authors don't expect their readers to come away form [sic] the book with a complete medical education, but rather a willingness to question their doctor's expertise [my emphasis].

I am becoming increasingly convinced that most of the wiki was written by 15-year-olds who just read the PD for the first time.

surely the consequence of eristic escalation is that shit happens
