I just don't understand any kind of absolute egalitarianism philosophy. Whether it's branded as anarcho-capitalism or straight anarchism or sockfucking libertarianism, it always misses the same point.

Conversely, teaching microbiology labs has hands down been the only job that I've actually enjoyed and took pride in. Grading sucks and is the most tedious and boring part of the job, but that's really my only complaint about it, other than the pay. My wife makes more than me, which isn't a problem in principle, but an extra 20k a year would help a lot. I was applying for jobs with salaries from 70-90k, and is a reasonable expectation for my degree in Boston/Cambridge

Quote from: Faust on February 03, 2025, 06:56:15 PMI worked in:
Security
Retail
Uni Research
Private energy sector

I've never ever worked as hard physically, psychologically and spiritually as when I worked in Retail.
I'm sure there's lots of worse jobs but everything else on that list was an up

I've always hated retail jobs. Probably the one I minded the least was working at a liquor store, but I was a stockboy instead of a cashier and my girlfriend at the time was a coworker. The job I hated the most was working as a cashier at Chipotle, which I took as a second job to pay for my wedding. My favorite part of the night was, no joke, cleaning the restrooms because I wouldn't have to deal with customers. Also helped that my research was on fecal bacteria, so cleaning physics defying diarrhea splatter wasn't pleasant, but also not something that I couldn't handle. My roommate was my manager and would give me a lift home (how I got the job) but we weren't always on at the same time and often enough I missed the last bus of the night that would take me from the subway to my neighborhood and I would have to walk 8 kilometers with a stretch through some woods that might or might not have coyotes. Also was going through climate grief at the time, so I was pretty depressed about having to spend the beginning of the end of the world helping capitalists sell burritos to MIT students who would end up making more money than me working in tech

Wow. 5 years.

-I should be wrapping up my data collection for my master's this month

I was awarded my master's in October 2023. I have zero interest in going for a PhD anymore. I still teach micro and med micro labs at the university I graduated from. I attempted to get a job outside of academia (both private and government), but none of that panned out and I decided to wait until after the election to try again. So, now that the election is happened and the fucker won, I'll probably be stuck in academia. That's fine. Job security is nothing to slag off

Quote from: Nephew Twiddleton on January 15, 2020, 07:35:59 AM-I'm dragging on that because I've had a near continuous headache/neckache on the left side of my head for the past two weeks and have spent most of it on the couch. I went into the lab a couple of times, but since movement exacerbates everything, I'm real reluctant to take bumpy public transportation for 90 minutes each way. Doctor was unconcerned and I'm not dead yet so it's probably ok outside of the near continuous at best discomfort

Turned out to be trigeminal neuralgia which I still suffer flare ups from, but is largely managed at this point through a combination of magnesium supplements, regular cannabis consumption (which I barely touched since turning 21), and trying to correct my bad posture habits

Lol, January 2020. Though, it was not long after that that I had a spiritual reawakening and I seem to be benefiting from psychologically

Still married, things are great. We're both firmly middle aged at this point, but the spark is still there

This looks like a head-fake.
If they reported that security flaw, it likely means that they're holding a better one (or several) in reserve.  Either this one is too easily exploited by the Other Guys, and they didn't want the competition, or, possibly, it was deemed worth spending this exploit in exchange for political capital.

Sort of like when the mob helps you secure your house against cat-burglars.

Or they're installing one.

Oof. OOF.

I used to host these parties, and on the TV I'd have a loop of my image folder playing on slideshow. When it got to C, there would be like 5 solid minutes of files called cramulus-something, so it was this concentrated dose of these WOMPs. It made some of my guests hate me. "why are there so many bad MS Paint jobs of you?" Because of WRATH, that's why.

I have an app on my phone now that does a better job of superimposing images, and I'm not really sure how to feel about that sometimes. Sometimes it's awesome, but sometimes I miss a good ole hack and paste

It's also worth mentioning that, as promised, "Cramulan" has become a negatively-connotation adjective in certain circles.  I have never explained what "cramulan" means (aside from it somehow referring to poor and/or evil business practices, and nobody wants to admit that they are the one person that doesn't know what it means, so people just use it.

Meanwhile, I am once again forced to admit that Pelosi knows what the hell she's doing.

Now that Trump has had his big distraction and it's fallen off of the news...

What's her game do you think? I'm a little out of the loop on what's going on with it

Apparently, she anticipated the "wag the dog" business in Iran (or anticipated something like it), so she delayed until after the incident to release the impeachment articles to the senate.

Given that nothing else has changed, it's the only thing that makes sense.

That makes sense to me

Why would you aim at 2004, of all the years?

2004 was fucking terrible.

Well, yes.  To warn you about 2005.

Did I miss anything interesting from 2006 to now?

Nothing major, but, uh, if you could spike Donald Trump's cocaine, that'd be great.

:lulz:

Yeah, this one is pretty important. You definitely want to get that done while Bush is president

I will confess to being a good person and not turning it on and taking nakey pics. Nobody needs to see THAT. Either way, it's headed back to the Northshore with some special notes on customs declaration forms. Because Massachusetts is another country.

For some reason I just got an image in my head of EoC as Mr. McFeeley.

Bump. I'm trying to find an old womp and came across this in the process, lol
He could rock that uniform.
