I found an old cd with some of MC Hawking's earliest stuff, before it became all about rapping about science. The funniest song he ever did was a Led Zeppelin Medley. Now I just need to figure out how to put it on internetz.

At least according to the documentary, a person or group is only nerdcore if they identify themselves as such.  So while someone like Weird Al or Led Zepplin might have certain songs that would appeal to the nerdcore ascetic, they do not identify as nerdcore artists.

Well, my computer can't read the disc, even though my DVD player can.

I found it here, anyway:

This is one of the first songs he ever released. abmp3.com says it was made in 1994. I remember hearing it the late 1900's/early 2000's.

Laughin Jude

I'll admit to having Futuristic Sex Robotz in my music folder.

I also started listening to the Protomen about a week ago, and I've been listening to Acts I & II daily trying to memorize all the words. But Megaman is right up there along with Lord of the Rings and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as one of the foundational myths of my childhood, so that's really no surprise.

I am going to have to get some of MC Hawkings' stuff because of this thread.

I think quite a bunch of "nerdcore" songs are funny and entertaining, but the lot of em really didn't need to have gone so far as to build an entire genre out of it.

INFORMATION SO POWERFUL, YOU ACTUALLY NEED LESS.

East Coast Hustle

That's where I'm at. It's a mildly amusing gag in small doses, but I don't think I could take an entire album of it, let alone an entire sub-genre full of aspies.

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Bruno

I see nerdcore as a parody of other genres that probably didn't need their own genre, like gangsta rap and dubstep.

Agreed
Music is either noise or...noise with rhythm.

Bruno

I just invented a new sub-genre of dubstep called toddstep.

It's dubstep played by a guy named Todd.

I can do that.

East Coast Hustle

I like how you lumped gangsta rap in with dubstep and nerdcore, as if the genre weren't littered with commercially successful releases and artists with broad crossover appeal.

I mean, MC Hawking and NWA totally belong in the same conversation. :lulz:

Now that I think about it, MC Hawking clearly belongs in the gangsta rap genre, not nerdcore.

I must admit, however, that gangsta rap has been much more successful than other crime related music genres, such as...

Arson Ragtime

Pedophilia Bluegrass

Embezzlement Folk

Perjury Honkey Tonk

Daterape Opera

Attempted Manslaughter / Jaywalking / Jazz - Funk Fusion

Treason Breakbeat

I've been waiting to use that one for a long time.

... a really long time.

I think when I first came up with it, MTV was still mostly music videos.

Considering the majority of themes, "Daterape Opera" might actually be a viable term.

I think after rap, opera combines better with any given crime than any other music genre.
