Anybody else from here hear about a Pagan forum called the Cauldron? I've heard about it from a couple of TCC refugees who said it seems like a fairly free-thinking place, and am wondering if it's worth checking out?
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

Haven't heard of it, but if it's a pagan forum, I predict with 93% accuracy that it is a top-down heirarchy with vague but draconian posting rules.

It amazes me how these so-called "nature religions" are so bloody Aneristic.

Yeah, that's kind of my assumption too, but I thought it might be worth a look. Not gonna bother signing up for it unless I hear positive reviews from someone who hasn't become acclimated to fascism. At this point virtually anything probably seems like free thinking compared to TCC.

Glittersnatch would be a rather unfortunate condition, if a halfway decent troll name.

The management at the Cauldron is just as bad if not worse than the management at TCC and as power hungry and control freaky as the management at MW.  Think if EBS and Twinkle had children named Phoenix Blue and Memnoch.......

I saw members of their managment team make fun of a person in a thread about their mental illness.

I saw people get banned for asking questions, others were banned for saying that a post was rude.

Personally, they are on my "places to not bother with on the internet" list.  The place should be burned to the fucking ground and every member of management with it!

Wow, harsh! :lulz: But not surprising. I don't know what it is about people attracted to running "pagan" forums that makes them so egocentric and hierarchy-driven, but it never seems to fail. They ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS seem to demand "respect" rather than earning it.

OMG that reminds me. What was that one forum where you could be infracted for "foolhardiness"? Was that a pagan forum too? Does anyone remember that?

Heirarchies and pretend-authority are written right into their religion, Wicca especially.

They have "high priests" and "high priestesses"1, they all have their little place in the rituals they conduct in the park, the smell of which ruins everyone else's barbeques, and if you don't suck up, you're booted out of the group to gnash your teeth in the dark as a "solitary".

Looking through the board, it's amazing how busy Artemis is, these days.  Apparently, she's communing with every smelly hippie and her dawg.  I mean, back in the old days, it was a BAD thing for the Gods to notice you (those myths NEVER end well), but now they drop at the local Starbucks in for a latte and a croissant, with any old patchouli-stinking food tube that can be arsed to wear one of those Celtic thingies around their necks.

Also, they're all perpetually under "reconstruction", apparently, which makes them the spiritual equivalent of the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago.

Still, it beats the vampire craze that made the rounds on the interbutts 5 years ago, I suppose.

1  Apparently, the qualifications to be a high priest/priestess are:  Be 16-21 years of age, be 300 pounds with a distantly-remembered aquaintance with personal hygiene, and basically be the first vapid Goth on your block to come up with the notion.

Wasn't that the Toadfish Monastery?

That sounds very vaguely familiar.

"Foolhardiness".  :lulz: That's still the funniest damn rule I've seen. Although "talking back" is a pretty stupid one too.

They have like 30 people in managment for a board of what? 10 active posters and a few ass kissing toadies?

UGH, there are no words about how much I fucking hate that place and the people who run it.

AFK

Sounds like something they'd do at the Steve Jackson Games forums too.  They have NO sense of humor over there.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

It always weirds me out when forums have more mods than active users. It's like, OK, something is DEFINITELY very wrong here.

You dont need that many people though. The only way I can rationalize it is if they just give out Mod positions to anyone they like, or theyre completely incompetent at running a forum. Mabye a little of both.
