:lulz: Everybody thought that. When I snapped out of it and went to look at my phone, it was full of "DUUUDE WHERE ARE YOU????"

It is very possible that my courseload is having a detrimental effect on my mental state, because one of my classes is all about how fucked our entire economic and political system is, what with the concentration of wealth and all, and the research I'll be doing for the next month for a paper for another class is about cancer from environmental pollutants. My current wing of research is the cost of cancer... which translates on the other end to the profit from cancer treatment as an industry, which is :x :x :x

Yes. Hardly anyone actually dies from cancer anymore. They die from cancer surgery, or as a side effect of chemo, or meds. And of course, it must be the biggest open cheque for research funding, and all it's associated industries. There's a book by Dr Alex Comfort, called "The Anxiety Makers", it's quite old, (1970's I think) but it examines the dynamics behind Healthcare as a Corporate Industry. How it generates it's own market conditions, and likes to keep people sick. Really quite an eye opener.

Maybe in England.  You have the NHS.

Here, when you run out of money and/or insurance, you do in fact die of cancer.

I was thinking completely from a British view, yeah, I should have mentioned that.

You are correct in that cancer treatments are harsh as hell, but untreated breast cancer is in fact worse.

Uhhhh

Where are you getting your statistics? Because I'm seeing over 150,000 cancer deaths in the UK each year, and over 550,000 annual cancer deaths in the US.

In our defense, we do have something like 308-some-million people to their 62-some-million, so technically our cancer mortality rate is significantly lower per-capita (which is odd, I hadn't noticed that before).

I'm really curious now about whether they have higher overall rates of cancer or just a higher mortality rate. Unfortunately, homework is calling so I'll have to wait.

LMNO

For the record, death by untreated cancer fucking sucks.

However, apparently the side effects of cancer treatment is worse, after a point.
