But I do want to say that having none of your rants, articles, etc, gain any responses at all is extremely conducive to writing.  Try it sometime...You, too, can have the thrill of watching your work drop off the page faster than Whitney Houston's blood pressure.

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."

Okay, imagine you're out here, and we have Coffee Night.  You show up, and everyone in the room talks about maintenance scheduling and fluid dynamics problems.  You attempt to start another conversation, and everyone is fairly polite about it, but goes back to discussing problems with magnetic flow meters.

You haven't been snubbed, exactly, but you'll probably make excuses and leave early.

Likewise, there's nothing wrong with music threads, etc...But if people only post in those threads, those who don't know the difference between a bass and a guitar are kind of fucked.

Star Wars, too.

And as for DECI4 threads, the fact that anyone takes them seriously at all is bad enough, but the fact that they get twice the posts of anything outside of the more technical music threads is a fucking disgrace.

yeah. i do sympathize for a piece that drops of without response.
sometimes a piece might not resonate with me, and i don't really have anything to say, but i see it dropping like a brick and i feel compelled to respond, but i'm afraid that simple acknowledgement without genuine positive feedback would be insulting.

also the troll threads going on astounds me, since we are supposedly a master of troll community here...

They don't astound me at all.  Discordians are no less likely to resist a little self-righteous wrath than any other human...Even though they fucking KNOW it's copypasta bullshit.  We just can't fucking help ourselves.  Oook ook.

All I know is that I posted the first part in a series of threads designed to lure Richter back out of the clutches of Zuckerberg, and it got a dozen views and no responses (compare this to DECI4's shit, ANY thread about Star Wars, and any thread that talks about music in what is apparently another language1).  If I were him, I'd stay on Facebook, too.  Fuck, if I had access to FB at work, that's where I'd be.  You can at least have a conversation there, even if 90% of the people on it are dumbfucks.  At least they TALK once in a while.  I now completely understand why Cain takes off every few months and just blogs.  You get the same level of response, and you don't have to go looking back 6 pages to remember what you were talking about.

1  Let me make it perfectly clear that I am not bitching about the music threads, so much as the fact that the music tards tend to get fixated and won't talk about anything else.

i read the Richter thread.
i thought it was amusing.  but i didn't comment.  In the threads that are ATTN: X, i feel a little awkward responding before X does.
and also sometimes i don't know if i should riff on something right away.  i don't want to be the one to kill a newborn thread with a lame ass riff.

It isn't just you, or just anyone.

Look, we've lost more than 50% of our regular posters in the last year (Semaj, Remmy, Richter, Payne, etc, I could go on but you get the point), and it MIGHT have something to do with the fact that nobody fucking SAYS anything anymore.  No matter how much work you put into something, it just gets views, and MAYBE 10% of the conversation it would have gotten in 2010.  The few conversations that DO happen are either technical discussions limited to people skilled in those subjects, or fucking troll threads that indicate that we are HOPELESSLY FUCKING ADDICTED TO THE DUMBER SORT OF NOOB.

Given that, why the hell would they come here?  Why not just to go some retarded fucking social network, where someone MIGHT give the APPEARANCE of listening to what you have to say?

Doomed to fail in summoning Richter, or doomed to get no responses?

regarding the people you listed, are you railing against them for not posting more, or railing against the people that do post a lot, that they are not posting sufficiently enough to keep the listed folk engaged?

1.  Yes.  The former because of the latter.  Why would he or anyone else show up?

2.  Never mind.  It's not important.  I'll hook up the rant bot again when I get home, and then I won't get so fucking pissed off over nothing...And I'll probably enjoy the conversations just as much.  Why am I getting so frustrated?  I have no fucking idea.  Maybe I'm just a slow learner.  Do whatever the hell you like, and just ignore these little outbursts.

Actually, I think I know why this drives me up a fucking wall.  Because I'm stupid, and can't get things through my head.  Cain is the smartest guy I know, and he seems to have the same problem, when it comes to this subject.

Fuck, what the hell am I still doing here?

I understand your frustration. We all get it from time to time and we're all guilty of it from time to time. I stopped looking at Deci4's threads except to click on them and get them off of the recent unread topics page.

I do find it difficult to respond to Cain's threads, mainly because it's hard for me to come up with an intelligent response, but it might be good for me (and anyone else who feels the same) to ask questions about it.
