If we simply put discordian stuff in the torrents, people will google search discordianism, and a percentage will end up here.

Which torrents?

One thing we DON'T want to do is get Faust or ECH tangled up with the RIAA or any such shit.  I suggest we leave TPB alone, for example.

Might have a couple.

But we're gonna have to strain the results... :lulz:

I suggest we leave illegal torrents alone. TPB is just another torrent search engine like so many others (they just happen to have a loud public image), but they host both legal and illegal torrents just like so many others. Most torrents on TPB are found on the other search engines and vice versa, we gain nothing by excluding TPB. In fact, putting out a torrent at some other place, if it catches steam, is bound to find its way to TPB sooner or later.

That said, I will leave TPB alone since most ISPs in NL have been summoned to ban it. Higher court appeal is still going but for now I can't reach it.

Okay, so yeah, we leave torrents alone.  There has to be a way to use this idea in some other, more legal, way.

If we put pages of the Pricipia in a comic book torrent like badbeast was mentioning, how would it get traced back to here if there was nothing that had the URL of this place?
the person DL it might do a google search of discordianism and end up here, but there wouldn't be a direct link.

Well, here's the thing:  Faust or ECH could probably defend themselves in court.  But they'd have to defend themselves in court, if you catch my drift.  And I can tell you from personal experience that this is NOT a cheap or quick proposition, even from a nuisance lawsuit...And the tards at the RIAA are quick to spray the loving all over the place, to anyone even remotely connected to an alleged copyright infringement.

Don't poop on the board owners.  Just saying.

Yes, the only thing with torrents could be torrents with public domain or CC data in them, but the only people that would get "our" version will be people not smart enough to get the original one.

A second possibility is building a torrent consisting of only our own original material and distributing that. But that might be more trouble than it's worth.

Another idea, building on Faust's thread about comics, would be to get a blog going reviewing popular stuff, there's no legal problems there, and we can insert all our ideas and links as long as it's still interesting to read. This can be done with other things than comics, of course. For example, a review of the Black Mirror would be great too. Anything in popular culture that has enough of a Discordian vibe to it, in fact.

And yes, even if you think you're safe, the RIAA/MPAA/etc are a bunch of thugs and will fuck you for no other reason than because they can.

Well, that's it.  And if it were just me, I'd say fuck it.  But it's NOT me, it's ECH and Faust, so I'm gonna say we find a better way to use the same general idea...IE, advertisements where people will trip over them.

The last thing I want to do is to get anyone in trouble, but it seems there are legs on this as an idea. Most of the ads in old comics are for products that no longer exist anyway. How about selectively sticking a tiny hi res logo in the corner of selected texts? Nothing that leaves a trail, just a specifically designed 'trademark' type thing, maybe a series of them like a puzzle or something.

yeah. i do sympathize for a piece that drops of without response.
sometimes a piece might not resonate with me, and i don't really have anything to say, but i see it dropping like a brick and i feel compelled to respond, but i'm afraid that simple acknowledgement without genuine positive feedback would be insulting.

also the troll threads going on astounds me, since we are supposedly a master of troll community here...

Apparently a ton of people think that means that we respond endlessly to every half-assed troll and pat ourselves on the back for cleverly one-upping them. Protip: if you're engaged in a battle of wits with a toll, the troll won.

i read the Richter thread.
i thought it was amusing.  but i didn't comment.  In the threads that are ATTN: X, i feel a little awkward responding before X does.
and also sometimes i don't know if i should riff on something right away.  i don't want to be the one to kill a newborn thread with a lame ass riff.

I started reading it

and then I was late to school. Oops.

I gotta throw out there that it's not just here. It's the whole fucking internet. People are broke, stressed, working too much, gone back to school, and have less free time. A lot of people are changing how they use their free time, too, and are busy being all activisty. It's frustrating, but it's the whole world, and not just this board.
