I don't find it especially interesting or funny most of the time, honestly. Things like plagues and pollution are interesting, but most of the rest of it kind of bores me.

I am sure that to a certain type of person, the sociology of health is boring... I don't pity them, but I'm glad I'm not one. They're probably the sort that find history interesting.

Good thing we don't all like the same things, because, well, speaking of boring...

I always thought of Edison as an engineer rather than a scientist.
Neither here nor there, I suppose.  Anyway, just my $0.02.

Edison did not believe in radio | E.C. Snyder did  thus the split
E.C. came out West to live among the Nez Pierce {? to do Assaying
Not Chemistry: thus i was with E. in the 60's { Learned the Method

I think history is amazing in its absurdity. You can pick some major reality altering event and often trace it back to some insignificant event. It is funny ha-ha and funny horrormirth and funny absurd and funny weird all together.

As for Tesla and Edison, they were both great men in their own right. Edison was a dick, Tesla was a nut and neither of them were nearly as cool as Emperor Norton.

A lot of it is pretty boring and humorless.  A lot of it is horrible and tragic. Some of it is funny. Some people really get off on reading about historical events, and others don't.

I'm shocked to see how charged this thread has become.
i keep alternating in my opinion of the current matter.
if people weren't so resistant to opposing views we could conduct a more civilized conversation, and others might not be induced to making some of the comments that have been generated.

I mean it, if more people took an interest in history and the world they are living in there would be far less abuses possible and apart from that history is inspirational.

I mean it, if more people took an interest in history and the world they are living in there would be far less abuses possible and apart from that history is inspirational.

If fewer people were impoverished and uneducated, there would be fewer abuses possible, and more people would have the time and resources to be inspired by history.

So, ya know. It's one of those things.

History is part of any subject people become educated on. There is no way to become educated about art or literature or science or politics without learning the history of your subject. That doesn't mean that there's some kind of vast tragedy in people not studying general history. I took world history twenty years ago, and I have no interest in taking more history-specific classes because that would take time and energy away from what I am focused on and need to spend my time learning. There is little enough time as it is.

Fortunately there are historians who really geek out on and enjoy learning history. Even those, you may have noticed, tend to focus, and know far more about a specific area than others.

The real tragedy, aside from kneejerk elitism, is that so many people are going without education.
