Especially because my last name is all English and stuffy-sounding as hell. It sounds even stuffier when it's hyphenated.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

I'm assuming taking a made up silly name would ruin it.

For me it would, yes. Part of the joy of such magnificent names is that they came that way.

I just had the momentary insight of what my name would be if I married the recipient of my amorous affections, and it would be stuffy to the power of ten. Wow.

Some days I'm tempted to go the "make up a last name for the whole household" route, since the kids have one name and I've got another and their step-dad has another...

Two of my most favoritest names EVER are "van Winkle-Beaver" and "Furtwangler-Tarp". I have always been highly envious of the owners of those glorious names. If I ever remarry I hope hope hope it's to someone with a last name that wonderful.

It may or may not be or have been a person's name, but there's a road on the Olympic Peninsula outside of Sequim named Kitchen-Dick Road. I've always loved that.

:lulz: So many good names in that area.

Yeah, if you keep going on the 101 past Kitchen-Dick Road and all the way past Forks to where it turns south to parallel the coast you'll drive through the (not actually existent) town of Humptulips. And at that point, of course, one must keep going, all the way past Oyhut and Oysterville to where you turn back east towards Tokeland, Wahkiakum County, and Skamania.

Oh definitely. When I lived on Salty Drive off Hunter Point Road off Steamboat Island Road our vet was in Shelton, and in order to get there we always took the scenic detour on Hurley Waldrip Road along Little Skookum Creek and past Skookumchuck.

We have a Woman Hollering Creek. I always guessed it was called that because guys would fish and get drunk there, and their wives would come yell at them, but I found out it's a botched translation of La Llorona.
