A Few Words on DOING DISCORDIANISM WRONG

I was there for at least some of this conversation and I don't feel like what you're describing is entirely accurate.

Some people on IRC don't post on PD anymore.  Fair enough, their choice.  I'm saddened by that decision, but it's theirs to make.  AFAIK, those people, specific exceptions aside, don't see PD as "doing Discordianism wrong" or whatever.  If anything, it's close to the PD position that the Discordianism of the forum is a kind of Discordianism, but how they interpret Discordianism is different.  These people may not like the overall tone, or some individuals here, but they don't question it as a valid Discordian site, and I have seen them argue with people (like monad) who have.

While some people may have made slightly impolitic or badly choiced phrases, by and large they were trying to show Monad that he was being a moron.  They werent expecting to have their every word choice scrutinized at leisure by someone on the forums.

Even if I'm not writing, I am still logged into IRC a lot.  PD rarely ever comes up as a topic of discussion, and in this case it only did because monad made it so.

No-one agreed with monad's idea that PD was a ghetto that needed to be purged and resettled by the right sort of Discordians.  Everyone told him if he was so keen to try something new, to go make his own site, with his own tone.  That is where the discussion about software, and how it can impact on communication methods and the culture of a forum originated.  If anyone has told you otherwise, they are selling you a line of bullshit.

Moreover, I'm now upset, because I specifically went out of my way to try and not cause a shitstorm based on a misunderstanding between IRC and PD.

And now I'm wasting time on an argument caused by a useless piece of shit like monad when I should be thinking about my research project.

So I'm probably taking a break.  I'll see how I feel in the morning.

See, that's what I took from your excerpt from the IRC logs.

Then BDS told me about "several people" who DID agree.

So, either BDS was less than honest, or you didn't see everything there was to see.

Of course, Monad left BDS holding the bag after that comment, so I think that issue is settled.

I'm not listed there and I explicitly and repeatedly said I agree with monad and I didn't even do it on IRC.

Not with his "solutions" but with his commenting on the marked decrease in new registrations, in people online, in new topics, in posts etc.

I don't believe in jumping to conclusions on those figures and pinning it on circlejerkin and injokes I believe in Root Cause Analysis and that implies looking at what was going on then, and now.

Just because people agreed with part of what he was saying doesn't mean they were sitting in a sowing circle discussing how Roger was the cause of all the worlds problems.

Well I don't know who BDS could be referring to other than myself and maybe a comment or two by Tripzip (in the first quote I included).  There was literally nothing in #discord between that point and BDS's comments, so either he misunderstood mine and Tripzip's positions, or, more likely (IMO) he used those words as a shorthand to mean "the people who critiqued you before" and didn't think too clearly about his exact word choice.

Either way, I can assure everyone in this thread that #discord has pretty much nothing to do with PD, postively or negatively.  The topic only came up due to monad and if I hadn't been there, it probably would've died without comment.

I also wouldn't hang around on a chatroom where people were dissing a site I help run all day.  Well, OK, I would, but not under my own userhandle, and not for simple conversation.

Aw, I was probably overreacting.  Yesterday was the worst day of my professional life.

BDS, I apologize for going overboard.

No, my revenge will be a little more subtle.

Note that the apology extends to BDS, but not to Gonad, who still gets a lifetime supply of my butt peanuts.
